Synthstrom Audible Deluge

I bought the Synthstrom Deluge because I wanted to move away from the computer and work in a more hands-on, hardware-focused way. After spending some time with it, I can honestly say it’s one of the most inspiring pieces of gear I’ve used.

What impressed me most is how much functionality is packed into one device. It works as a sequencer, sampler, synthesizer and arranger all at once, and once the workflow clicks it becomes very fast to turn a simple loop into a full track.

I currently use it together with a Moog Matriarch, and the Deluge works perfectly as the “brain” of the setup. It controls external gear via MIDI while also playing its own synth engines and samples.

The build quality feels very solid, the battery operation is extremely convenient, and it’s great to see how Synthstrom keeps improving the device through regular firmware updates.

There is definitely a learning curve at first, but once you understand the grid workflow it becomes an incredibly powerful and creative instrument. If you enjoy hardware music production or want to spend less time looking at a computer screen, the Deluge is a fantastic tool.

Ich hatte den Delugue schon seit langem haben wollen, noch bevor er, wie jetzt, außerhalb von Neuseeland angeboten wird. Habe ihn jetzt ca. eime Woche und bin total begeistert was für Möglichkeiten in ihm stecken. Vorab muß ich sagen, dass ist bisher meine erste und einzige Groovebox, außer einigen Sequenzern. Bin vor allem mit diversen Desktop Geräten ausgestattet, Spiel Bass und mache Homerecording, auch mit einer klassischen Rockband. Der Delugue läßt unbegrenzte Aufnahmen zu, ohne auf ein Pattern mit 16 Schritten beschränkt zu sein, so wie in jeder daw, z.B. Logic, dass heißt ich muss die Patterns nicht erst zu einem Song zusammensetzen. Ich kann auch Instrumente direkt einspielen oder singen. Habe aus Spaß z.B. eine Kalimba mit 11 Zungen gesampelt und kann diese jetzt Tauf den Pads problemlos wiedergeben, und das ganze habe ich über das integrierte Mikrofon aufgenommen und schnell editieren können. Der Sound ist erstaunlich gut. Die Kiste ist hervorragend verbreitet und die Regler haben einen angenehmen Wiederstand. Zudem eingebauter Akku mit 6 Stunden Laufzeit.
Das einzige was ich bis jetzt bemängeln kann ist, dass es keine Einzelausgänge gibt. Man hat einen Stereoausgang und kann alles im deluge bearbeiten und dann entsprechend stereomässig ausgeben.
Ehrlich, ich bin verliebt und es gibt bestimmt noch viel zu entdecken, zumal es auch open source ist und es sogar Benutzer Firmwares gibt, die die Funktionen noch erweitern.
Ich gebe ihn nicht wieder her!

The Deluge is for people who love to have everything in one place. It‘s synth engines and drum kits sound super rich and you have a lot of control over the sound design. Multiple Filters, FX and LFOs per track.
You can create songs without track or length limit. That goes for midi and audio tracks. The only limitation is the proccessor, which I haven‘t reached yet.
You can record automations, nudge midi steps, build track groups and arrange full songs and much much more. You can even record audio over the arranged song in full length.
It is battery powered so you can do all of it on the go.
The open source firmware makes it even better and also gives you the option to export tracks as audio files on the sd card.
It‘s really all you can wish for in a box like this.

J’ai l’honneur d’être le premier à évaluer le Synthstorm Audible Deluge, et je ne veux pas rater ça. J’ai découvert la MAO il y a quatre ou cinq ans, dès que j’ai été à la retraite. Eh, oui, je suis un vieux, comme on dit, mais je ne compte plus toutes les DAW, les plugins, les claviers maitres et autres contrôleurs, les boites à rythme, samplers, groovebox et les séquenceurs matériels que j’ai pu acquérir en quatre ou cinq ans. Ce n’était pas par désir de posséder, mais j’étais tout ce temps à la recherche d’un instrument qui me conviendrait vraiment. Je ne suis pas un claviériste. Je préfère jouer sur des pads. L’approche qui m’intéresse le plus pour la production en studio ou la performance live, c’est le principe du séquenceur. Parce qu’il me permet de m’étonner, de découvrir, d’improviser, jusqu’à tisser de petites merveilles sonores. Le Synthstorm Audible Deluge est le roi des séquenceurs, et beaucoup plus que ça. C’est un fantastique métier à tisser les sons. C’est aussi une sorte de vaisseau spatial, confortable et téméraire, qui peut m’emmener aux confins des univers musicaux sans risquer de me perdre. Je ne vais pas vous le décrire ici, car je viens de l’acquérir, et les démos le concernant ne manquent pas sur le net. Il y a une sympathique communauté réunie autour de lui qui ne demande qu’à vous informer, vous guider dans la découverte de cette merveille. C’est un véritable bijou. Il est beau, original, sensible, intelligent, il ne ressemble à rien d’autre. Vraiment pas étonnant qu’il vienne de Nouvelle Zélande. Il est d’une taille exquise. Ni trop petit, ni trop grand. Et il est en plus livré avec une belle petite housse qui porte son nom. J’ai enfin trouvé mon instrument !
