A complete in-the-box studio

The Akai Professional MPC Live, the popular groovebox built with live performance in mind, is now in its third generation. This model's got an even more powerful processor and even more controls than before, allowing producers of all kinds to tweak their tracks immediately and intuitively: One of the highlights here is a customizable touch strip for modulating sounds. And now, thanks to Bluetooth, the MPC III can be hooked up to Ableton Live Link wirelessly. On top of that, it's also capable of controlling external gear using its eight CV/Gate outputs. All of this makes the device's workflow a whole lot faster and more flexible, and with 3D sensor tech in the 16 pads, it's also more precise than ever. Whenever creatives feel like getting creative, wherever musicians make music – this groovebox is their fully loaded music production studio, perfect for spontaneous jam sessions thanks to its portable design.

Powerful processor, precise pads

The AKAI Professional MPC Live III comes with 16 RGB-lit pads that can be used to trigger samples, with four encoders for adjusting assignable parameters. The high-res 7" multi-touch display makes it easy to craft beats with precision, and the encoder for navigating the menu is a decent size too; right beneath the screen are buttons for transport controls like record and play. Above the drum pads are further settings for live musicmaking, like Full Level and Note Repeat. The drum synth comes with eight different synth engines, giving producers genuinely deep sound design options. Audio is processed in 32-bit floating point quality. And with an 8-core processor under the hood, it's got four times the power of its predecessor – so nothing's holding the next cutting-edge production back.

Building beats that'll last

The AKAI Professional MPC Live III is a great fit for music producers whose first love is Hip-Hop and R'n'B. And thanks to the built-in lithium-ion battery, they can take it on the go and use it for up to five hours without plugging it in. Busy producers can also hook up their own hard drive for easy access to all their samples and projects – and not just HDDs, but SSDs too, for that extra performance boost. When connected to a DAW, it also works great as a controller for Akai's MPC software suite, which makes programming beats a breeze with its simple drag-and-drop workflow. The device's streamlined interface means it couldn't be easier to lay down tracks and record performances, everywhere from the home studio to the club.

About Akai Professional

Akai Professional has its origins in the long-established Japanese company Akai, founded in 1929, which initially manufactured electric motors, soon to be followed by high-quality tape recorders and hi-fi products. Since 1988, Akai has also become a household name like no other on the Hip-Hop scene. With the development of its first MIDI Production Centre (MPC for short), created in collaboration with Roger Linn, Akai wrote history by decisively influencing the sound of Hip-Hop and Electronic music, which it continues to do to this very day. Famous exponents of the MPC series include DJ Shadow, Eminem, and Kanye West. Today, Akai is also well known for its robust and versatile USB MIDI controllers, not least of which is the bulletproof APC range of Ableton controllers.

From the decks to the dancefloor

On the back, besides the regular USB port for connecting to a DAW, there are two extra USB ports for plugging in external MIDI controllers – giving beatmakers of all kinds even more ways to control their setup. A DJ who wants to sample straight from the decks? They'll find phono inputs on the back of the unit (there’s a ground connection next door, too, in case the turntable isn't grounded and starts humming). Any synth players out there? They can use the two MIDI outputs for sending signals to their instruments. The MPC even has built-in speakers, which are tuned to emphasize frequencies between 3 and 5kHz, making them great for modern chart and club sounds. All in all, the AKAI Professional MPC Live III is the ultimate groovebox, a fully-featured toolbox for programming beats – anytime, anywhere.

BIG FUN! Over 20+ years of experience I found that most samplers and synths are fun, tactile and immediate. But many times there are just too many features missing that will eventually lead you back to a DAW. I've had many samplers and also the Live II for a while but man let me tell you this thing hits different! Sure there are a lot of buttons, and a little bit of getting used to the different sections, I haven't ran into anything that I couldn't do. Record a mic (phantom power!), bass, crazy fast drumwork, sample chopping. All the included sounds are great. Most of my projects (usually 1 durmtrack, 1 sample chop, a bass and 2-4 instrument plugins) load in a matter of seconds. Browsing presets, sounds, menus all feel super responsive. And on top of ALL these features, it just sounds really good. Its really impressive how quickly you get it to sound like a record. Really cool stuff Akai! Expensive, sure but worth it. One thing: sampling through an Android phone doesn't seem to work on a lot of models but I just use a USBC out on my phone and a good old trs cable. Works fine.

I've been waiting for this instrument for a long time, I could even dream of having it, but the Armenian customs kept it for a long time for inspection, but everything is in the past, the instrument is with me, thanks to Thomann

I switched to the MPC LIVE 3 from the MPC One and was impressed. New Pads are really good and responsive. Hardware has enough power to work smooth and fast. New usb-c multi-out features is must have!
