Push opens a new chapter

The third-generation Push makes the leap from accomplished controller to complete instrument. Retaining the familiar 8x8 pad grid and workflow of its predecessors, the Ableton Push 3 Standalone runs Live entirely on its own thanks to an internal processor, 8GB of RAM and a 256GB SSD. Even untethered from a computer, it handles sequencing, editing and sound design directly from the hardware, powered by its rechargeable battery when needed. The redesigned pad matrix is fully MPE-enabled, responding to pitch bends, slides and pressure on every note, unlocking new dimensions of expression while keeping Live under tighter control. Navigation has been refined with a jog wheel, raised-ridge buttons and reorganised layouts, while the integrated audio/MIDI interface with analogue, ADAT and CV ensures it works equally well as an all-in-one workstation or central hub in a studio.

Live inside the hardware

The Ableton Push 3 Standalone runs Live natively, preserving the familiar Session-based workflow. Instruments, packs and effects are stored locally, and projects and samples can be easily transferred via Wi-Fi. The onboard processing power is robust enough for complex sessions, handling more than 20 tracks of Ableton’s Analogue synth before reaching its limits. Freeze and Flatten remain available for heavier workloads, while clip editing—pitch, velocity, length and probability—is performed via rotary controls. Thirteen encoders, a touch strip and a dedicated jog wheel cover dozens of functions, with navigation and browsing handled entirely on-device. The focus thus stays centred on the pads and encoders, letting ideas develop without even glancing at a computer.

Complete standalone solution

The Ableton Push 3 Standalone serves a wide spectrum of musicians. Experienced Live users gain deeper integration, with the Session Screen displaying clip grids directly on the device, freeing the pads for Note or Drum modes. Newcomers can explore the Ableton environment in a self-contained setting, composing and performing tracks without the need for a laptop. In the studio, it doubles as an audio/MIDI interface and expressive composition tool, sequencing beats, shaping sounds or linking with modular rigs via CV. Sessions prepared in Live translate seamlessly to Push, where they can be reworked or performed—in the studio, on stage, or on the move—with the added depth of MPE pads for bending chords, shaping melodies, or fine-tuning percussion hits.

About Ableton

Ableton was founded in 1999 in Berlin, by former Native Instruments employees Gerhard Behles and Bernd Roggendorf. Ableton AG now employs around 350 people worldwide and has since expanded to Los Angeles and Tokyo. Ableton is famous for “Live”, their flagship software DAW/sequencer. Live is a market-leading application in the field of music production. Live is performance-oriented, allows real-time processing of samples and synthesizers, instrument-like flexibility for improvisation on stage and also provides renowned music production tools. Ableton is famous and used worldwide for its creative possibilities, in the both sound design and music production.

Natural workflow

In practice, the Push 3 Standalone blurs the boundary between controller, interface and instrument. The pads, encoders, function buttons and display work together as a musical surface, making sequencing, shaping and performing feel like one connected process. External instruments record directly through the multi-mode inputs, complete with tuner and Live’s Amp and Cabinet effects. Latency is minimal when routing gear via the External Instrument plug-in, while Freeze and Flatten apply equally to external sources. The rechargeable battery offers around two hours of standalone operation, extendable with high-wattage USB-C power banks. Whether sketching at home, shaping sounds in the studio or performing on stage, Push 3 Standalone keeps the workflow fluid and self-contained.
