Uncompromising audio interface

The Universal Audio Volt 876 USB Recording Studio is a remotely controllable audio interface with 24 inputs and 28 outputs that delivers 32-bit floating-point audio at up to 192kHz for clean, distortion-free recordings. Eight vintage-inspired preamps provide a warm analogue character, while compressors based on the classic 610 valve consoles and 1176 limiters bring the familiar Universal Audio sound to recordings. A collection of UAD plugins is included for mixing and mastering, alongside AI-powered features such as voice control, automatic instrument recognition, and the Tempo Listen function for accurate synchronisation. Up to three units can be combined for expanded input and output capacity when working on more demanding recording setups, which makes the system well suited to everything from smaller sessions to more complex productions.

Record ready-to-mix signals

The front panel is designed for straightforward signal routing, with two XLR combo sockets on the left-hand side accepting both XLR and jack cables. Each input features a rotary gain control with an integrated LED meter that indicates clipping by lighting up red, while the adjacent controls provide access to the Hi-Z function for high-impedance instruments such as electric guitars and basses, phase inversion, 48V phantom power, vintage preamp mode, and the 76 compressor with three selectable settings. These features allow incoming signals to be adjusted and processed directly at the recording stage. A built-in talkback microphone that can be activated using the dedicated DIM/TALK button is positioned on the far left for communication with musicians during recording sessions.

Intuitive recording monitoring

At the centre of the unit, an LED level meter provides a clear overview of all input and output levels, with the ability to switch between groups of eight channels at a time. Direct monitoring of input signals can also be enabled here, allowing latency-free monitoring for accurate recording. The rear panel features six jack outputs, with the first four dedicated to stereo studio monitor connections. Using the ALT button on the front panel, it is possible to switch between two connected pairs of speakers, while the MUTE button allows the currently selected monitor pair to be silenced. Alongside six additional XLR combo sockets for flexible input connectivity, the interface also includes two optical TOSLINK inputs and two outputs for digital audio connections with external devices.

Professional group recording

The Universal Audio Volt 876 USB Recording Studio is aimed at recording engineers who need to capture multiple sources, such as a complete band, with professional results. Assistive Auto-Gain simplifies the setup process by handling level adjustments automatically, while 32-bit float recording provides additional headroom for clean, distortion-free recordings. Thanks to the included rack brackets and screws, the interface can be installed in a standard 19" rack while occupying just a single height unit. Two power sockets (EN 50075 and BS 1363) are supplied for flexible use during live recordings and touring throughout Europe. And for those starting out in music production, the included LUNA DAW software offers an intuitive environment with support for the manufacturer's own range of plugins.

About Universal Audio

Few manufacturers can draw upon a wealth of audio engineering experience comparable to that of Universal Audio. The company's founding father Bill Putnam, along with his friend Les Paul, have an admirable reputation as trend-setting music producers and developers of legendary analogue studio technology. Putnam recorded Chuck Berry, Muddy Waters, and Sarah Vaughan, and was Duke Ellington's favourite sound engineer. He developed the famous 1176 Peak Limiter and distributed the Teletronix LA-2A level amplifier. This earned him a posthumous "Technical Grammy Award" in 2000. In 1999, Putnam's sons, Bill Putnam Jr. and James Putnam, re-founded Universal Audio, transferring their father's analogue vision and craftsmanship to the digital music world. Their product range includes audio interfaces, dedicated DSP farms, and a variety of plugins, as well as analogue hardware devices.
