Can we take a minute to appreciate how much competition the SM/Beta58 market has nowadays? While the Shure mics absolutely have a place at the table, the time of their solemn ruling have come and gone.
The SE V7 is like the next gen of supercardioid microphones, without the price tag of something like the Nexadyne series (which are brilliant, but also 3 times the price!). They’re both insanely clear, as well as rounded. Incomparably easier to work with than any Sennheiser vocal mic and even a lot more fun to use than a Beta58. They might be a little overpronounced at 5,5 kHz, but nothing a de-esser (or at least the parametric EQ) can’t fix.
The supercardioid pickup pattern makes them ideal for tricky rooms that are prone to feedback. You can get them scary loud on even the cheapest of monitor wedges, and coupled with quality wedges or even something like IEMs, they’re pretty much unbeatable for this price point.
Since I’ve switched over to SE V7 for both my handhelds as well as wired vocal mics, I’ve had nothing than compliments from both musicians, as well as the listening audience. They make mixing fun!
