The IK Multimedia ToneX Cab is the world's most compact full-range flat-response guitar cabinet, and a uniquely innovative piece of gear for players who want a powerhouse speaker system to get the most out of their modellers, preamps, or multi-FX rigs. But the ToneX doesn't just offer phenomenally accurate sound – it packs a punch too, with 350 watts pumping through a custom Celestion 12" and a Lavoce 1" compression-driver tweeter. That's more than enough headroom for rehearsal rooms or full-on stage action. On top of that, this little black beast comes loaded with features musicians will love: It has tilt-back legs for a perfect monitoring angle, a programmable three-band EQ, and a customisable IR loader with eight built-in impulse response presets. And because it weighs just 12.7kg, guitarists can take it with them wherever they like to play, with the leather handle on the top meaning there's no need for roadies to carry it for them.
The ToneX Cab's control panel is mounted on top of the unit, as it would be on a conventional guitar amp. Alongside the three-band EQ, there's the master volume knob, another control for the AUX input level, and the power switch with its matching orange LED. The Amp Tone knob shapes the crucial midrange and helps deliver that authentic ToneX "amp in the room" feel. Rounding things off is the switch for selecting the eight IRs, each indicated by its own green LED. This feature lets creative guitarists do things like beef up a preamp that doesn't have speaker simulation by implementing a virtual cab setup. Otherwise, all the unit's connections are tucked around the back: There are input and AUX sockets in XLR/jack combo format, MIDI I/O, USB, and a balanced XLR out, where users can even choose whether the XLR output signal is routed pre or post-EQ.
Whether it's a Fender Tone Master, a Line 6 Helix modeller, or IK Multimedia's own ToneX One – they all pair perfectly with the ToneX Cab to deliver every individual guitarist's carefully crafted sounds and settings with absolute authenticity. Players who spend a lot of time playing live, even in larger venues, can rely on the cab's incredible output and generous headroom, knowing they'll always be heard both loud and clear. But just as importantly: They can hear themselves clearly too! That's where the tilt-back legs come in, so this compact cab can be set up to fit the requirements of the stage, setup, and sound perfectly. In the studio, or just jamming at home, the ToneX Cab also shines thanks to its IR capabilities, with the MIDI interface and USB port particularly useful features for integrating it into any recording setup large or small.
IK Multimedia was founded in 1996 in the city of Modena in northern Italy. Its two founders, both musicians and engineers, joined forces with the aim of emulating electronic circuits using computer algorithms. Today, IK Multimedia is a multinational company with seven subsidiaries in Italy, the UK, Japan, Mexico, Brazil, Hong Kong, and the USA and exclusively manufactures products which are perfectly tailored to the needs of musicians – true to its motto 'Musicians first'.
With 350 watts of power driving a custom Celestion 12" and a 1" compression-driver Lavoce tweeter, plus built-in IRs, MIDI and USB connectivity, and a road-ready build, the IK Multimedia ToneX Cab is ideal for players who use modelling amps, preamps, or multi-effects rigs: Anyone who gigs and rehearses regularly knows that they need to be able to hold their own in a band mix, always hearing exactly what they're playing. But this compact powerhouse isn't just designed to reproduce guitar tones with unheard-of accuracy; keyboards, synths, and indeed almost any other instruments with line-level signals can be amplified using the ToneX Cab. On top of that, the programmable three-band EQ and eight IRs give musicians of all skill levels and styles the ability to shape their sound – and to adapt to whatever the situation demands.
