Modelling stompbox with audio interface

The IK Multimedia ToneX Pedal is a stompbox that offers authentic modelling of amps, cabinets, and overdrive/distortion pedals and comes with IK Multimedia’s advanced AI Machine Modelling Technology and TONEX software that allow musicians to play digital tone models, model their own rigs using the included presets, and share them with other users on the ToneNET platform. This pedal features a USB audio interface with 24-bit/192kHz conversion for excellent studio sound and is perfectly suitable for both guitars and basses thanks to its extended frequency range that goes from 5Hz right up to 24kHz. For maximum usability, the ToneX Pedal's scope of delivery also includes the downloadable TONEX MAX and AmpliTube 5 software as well as a 1.5m USB type A to type B connection cable and a mains power adapter.

The IK Multimedia ToneX Pedal features 150 presets that can be edited by adding a wide range of effects, including a noise gate to eliminate unwanted noise and feedback, a compressor for a fatter sound, an equaliser for optimum frequency control, and stereo reverb for more depth. This stompbox boasts an impressive dynamic range of up to 123dB that allows musicians to add focus and extra punch to their guitar or bass sound. The stereo reverb function can be used to add particular depth to the mono signal of the modelled amp and send the left/right signals to two mono jack outputs. Users can get even more creative by splitting the amp signal into two mono signals via the two outputs. With its MIDI inputs and outputs, the ToneX Pedal is also optimally equipped for integration into a MIDI rig that allows the stompbox parameters to be controlled remotely.

AI Machine Modeling

AI Machine Modeling is an innovative emulation method developed by IK Multimedia that allows users to model the sound of amplifiers, cabinets, and distortion pedals with outstanding authenticity. This is done by recording the guitar sound as a capture file that is subsequently analysed and stored as a selectable emulation model, the so-called “Tone Model”, by the AI Machine Modeling software’s neuronal network. The resulting Tone Models reproduce the emulated tone not only statically but also in every dynamic nuance. In addition to the wide selection of presets provided by IK Multimedia, users can create their own models and share them with others on the ToneNET website. Even the complex sound of entire rigs can be analysed and emulated by the AI Machine Modeling software. In order to access the Tone Models, users require an audio interface such as the IK Multimedia AXE I/O or the ToneX Pedal alongside the ToneX software. Furthermore, an additional microphone or re-amping box is necessary in order to be able to create amp and cab models.

Voldeed niet aan verwachting

Ik had gedacht na alle hype op YouTube dat dit een heel handige toevoeging aan mijn arsenaal zou zijn, met name voor evt live gebruik icm mijn pedalboard. De geluiden die je kunt downloaden zijn soms heel tof (de standaard geluiden fabriek af niet echt geweldig), maar de software interface is erg onhandig. Je moet hun software manager, amplitube en tonex alledrie downloaden en open hebben om alles werkend en goed communicerend te krijgen. Makkelijk een profiel/preset van ToneNet naar het pedaal krijgen is erg lastig en de bediening vh pedaal qua menu en diepere instellingen is onhandig vind ik. Ik gebruik al jaren dagelijks een Kemper en ondanks veel meer functies, vind ik die 10x makkelijk en intuitiever te bedienen.

Top product.
De sounds zijn echt goed. De interface is even wennen maar na een weekendje proberen ken je de weg!

De reverb is goed, niks meer aan doen! Een los delay pedaal na de output en een FRFR speaker eraan en je bent klaar. Via de MAIN naar de P.A. live en de geluidsman is ook weer blij.

Geen gedoe met microfoons, live altijd de sound die je thuis hebt gehoord. Zo enorm fijn om deze op een klein pedalboard achterop de fiets mee te kunnen nemen naar elke show.

Voor dit geld is er niks beters! Ik heb zelf een Kemper Profiler Rack en een Kemper Player, en deze ligt standaard op mijn bureau. Zo goed zelfs dat ik twijfel om de Kemper als backup te gebruiken en met deze de shows te doen.

The unit became faulty in less than one month, unluky perhaps. The output started to make loud noises and poping almost blow my speakers. Sound captures are great, but it's too limited linear machine! Not many options...the PC interface was terrible to use, messy UI! The unit needs to be connected to power supply to be used as an audio interface. The noise gate cuts off sharp not a smooth signal noise cut
Too many negative factors to compete just with the good sound quality.

Great tones

Just bought this pedal after finding great guitar tones in the Tonex Max software for my recordings (clean and hi-gain). I wanted to bring those tones to live gigs without carrying all the gear I’m used to. Turns out it was a great surprise - just plugged it into the front of house, and it was ready to go, loud and clear.
The IK software can be a bit of a hassle at first, with the initial setup (registering, connecting, managing libraries, etc.), but once you’re up and running, it’s all fun. Another thing to note is that if you expect to match the sound exactly - or as close as possible - to what you hear directly from the software, you might need to adjust the trim input and level your stuff accordingly.
Overall, the quality and experience with this little unit were a pleasant surprise. The interface controls are really handy - you can adjust almost every parameter, switch amps, turn off the cab, tweak modulation, and more - however, the "Alt" option in the pedal might be a little misleading, since you're adjusting two different things in the same knob, but you can live with it.
Gotta say, for the price, it’s definitely worth it!
