Dating back to the 1960s, the American brand has been creating unique and exciting instruments. Sturdy and affordable

The CD-60SCE-12 is undeniably a dreadnought, however, it has softer and rounder contours that set it apart from what most other manufacturers offer, in addition to a cutaway for better access to the upper frets. It features a laminated mahogany back and sides along with a solid spruce top. The neck is also mahogany, and the fingerboard and bridge are made of walnut, an obvious alternative to protected rosewood. Another noteworthy feature is the neck size, which at 25.3" (643mm) is slightly shorter than usual, noticeably improving playability. The signal is captured by a Fishman pickup, which is additionally equipped with a built-in tuner.

Good Finish, Weak Sound

Had this guitar for over 5 years now.

The finish is flawless and pretty, the neck is comfortable and easy to play, but the sound is severely lacking.

Weak bass and lack of volume is an issue for anyone trying to put on a show, which becomes specially noticeable when playing accompanied. Despite being solid wood top it's my lowest volume acoustic, even when compared to laminated and less expensive guitars. You have to really dig in to get some joy out of the playing experience.

The electronics are fine for the price, just don't expect L.R Baggs quality sound.

Disappointing

I was hoping for a reasonable quality and sound from this Fender instrument given it is certainly not the cheapest 12 string around but I was disappointed immediately on playing it. The set up seemed okay but the intonation was out on the 14th fret and higher on certain strings. I do not normally need a tuner but I had wanted to try alternate tunings so the fact that the on-board tuner was highly inaccurate (compared with my outboard, software and other tuners) was surprising and very frustrating. On delivery the 2nd G-string was out of position (sitting in the D-string groove) and seems like the wrong weight when compared to the other string pairings (was it replaced before shipping?). The overall sound quality lacked the richness one would expect from 12 string - both acoustically and through the on-board pick-up. I have returned the instrument to Thomaan (a first for me) and will be looking to spend a little more on a quality 12-string because this Fender just does not cut it.

A nice 12 string with a smooth tone.
Fishman electronics are a little basic but more than satisfactory for my needs.
Typical Fender build quality.
More than satisfied with this guitar.
