Controllers are rarely this expressive

The Embodme Erae 2 is a combination controller and looper, based on a uniquely sensitive, multi‑touch playing surface that turns gestures, pressure, and movement directly into sound. The full-size, pressure‑responsive touch controller reacts to everything from the gentlest caress to drumstick rhythms, translating X/Y movements and percussive pressure in high resolution. Musicians can record loops across eight tracks, setting their length and quantisation on the fly, and layering in overdubs as desired. They can also fully customise the Erae 2's layout, creating personalised playzone setups made up of keyboards, grids, drum pads, faders, and buttons – where every gesture is replicated with immense precision, and colourful animations give visual cues to keep things intuitive. The Embodme Erae 2 can control hardware and software via USB‑C and TRS MIDI, and it also offers 24 configurable CV/gate outputs for modular rigs.

Design. Control. Play.

The playing surface of the Ebodme Erae 2 is a matrix of 16,000 minute force sensors that capture the artist's every movement with sub‑millimetre precision, turning pressure into modulation. The playable layouts can be customised in Erae Lab and saved within a project, so elements can be added via drag‑and‑drop, with parameters, colours, MIDI, and CV designed exactly as the musician, band, or song demands. Samples and loops can be recorded across eight independent tracks, with the ability to overwrite or build up layers via overdub – the adjustable quantisation keeps timing locked and steady. The Erae 2's arpeggiator also responds to aftertouch, enabling unheard-of creative expressivity; the rate responds directly to the user's pressure, with finger slides modulating the pitch in real time. Tempo, keys, and scales can all be set directly on the unit, so the Erae is ready to produce exactly the right sounds to match any project.

Live use of the Embodme Erae 2, Polyphonic MIDI CV Controller and Looper

Turning human movement into electronic sound

For anyone looking to bring their production to life through the kinetic medium of movement, the Embodme Erae 2 offers a surface that analyses seemingly simple, natural gestures in terms of their underlying dynamics, direction, and pressure, going far beyond what traditional pads are capable of. In a live setup, this gives creative sound explorers a performance environment where they can build their loops step by step and tweak them on the fly, with colourful custom layouts keeping everything clear. In the studio, modular rigs stand to benefit immensely from the Erae 2's array of 24 freely assignable analogue outputs, which can send sequences, gates, and modulations to an entire arsenal of instruments and modules. Performers and producers whose music is based on fluid movements and organic arrangements have a more tactile, intuitive way to shape every nuance of their work – without ever having to dive into complex software menus or rows of identical dials.

About Embodme

Embodme was founded in Paris in 2018, and since then the company has specialised in innovative sensor systems and musical interfaces. Their interdisciplinary team – including engineers, designers, and musicians – develops pressure-sensitive multi-touch surfaces and even non-touch control devices, enabling new forms of musical expression. Their first product, the Erae Touch, was released in 2020: This polyphonic MIDI controller, with its freely customisable LED playing surface, found international acclaim and has been put to use by artists as diverse as Jean-Michel Jarre, Coldplay, or Flume. Embodme embodies expressive, performative music technology with a clear focus on creativity and interaction.

A cable for every idea

Thanks to its two USB‑C ports, the Embodme Erae 2 supports both host and device modes; this is complemented by two 3.5mm MIDI outputs and a 3.5mm MIDI input, so producers can effortlessly integrate their computers, hardware, and other controllers into any setup. The 24 freely configurable analogue outputs deliver CV, Gate or Trigger signals depending on the patch, meaning they can power modular systems, drum machines, or semi‑modular synths. When the Erae 2 is hooked up to a computer, it can control DAW instruments with uniquely expressive precision, while in an all‑hardware setup, sequencers, grooveboxes, or even a DJ mixer can be expanded with its highly responsive playing surface. From live looping and gesture‑driven soundscapes to recording clean melodies and tight drum tracks in the studio, it all comes together in the Erae 2's smooth, coherent workflow.

Mein neuer to go MPE Controller
john@johnwilhelm.ch 11.09.2025

Soupir...
