A versatile expansion
The Behringer SD16 digital stagebox offers a flexible solution, functioning either as a stand-alone unit or as an expansion when additional channels are needed beyond the standard configuration. Despite its position at the more affordable end of the market, the SD16's feature set remains impressively comprehensive and includes a built-in power supply, dual AES50 ports with EtherCon connections, and a dedicated Ultranet network port. Its 16 analogue inputs and outputs support a wide range of connection options, with CAT-5e cable runs of up to 100 metres enabling seamless integration between stage and front-of-house environments. Designed with practicality in mind, the SD16 combines a compact footprint and manageable weight with a robust metal chassis, complemented by protective rubber shock absorbers and durable chrome-plated metal handles, making it straighforward and efficient to transport, install, and pack away.
Excellent system compatibility
When integrated into a complete X32 system, up to three Behringer SD16 stageboxes can be linked via the built-in AES50 ports, expanding the setup to provide as many as 48 bidirectional inputs and 24 balanced XLR outputs. The integrated ULTRANET distribution hub supports up to four Behringer POWERPLAY P16-M personal monitor mixers per SD16, delivering both power and 16 channels of audio over shielded CAT5e cables, eliminating the need for additional hardware. Two programmable inputs also support Hi-Z sources, making it possible to connect instruments such as keyboards, acoustic guitars, and bass guitars directly, without requiring a DI box. A dedicated USB port allows for straightforward system updates from a PC, while the onboard microphone preamps, shared with the Behringer X32 series, can be remotely controlled via the AES50 interface for added flexibility during operation.
For studio and live use
The Behringer SD16 is built to simplify workflows in both studio and live sound environments and offer seamless integration into a wide range of existing setups. Its accessible price point makes it an appealing option for professional and semi-professional users alike, while also remaining within reach of ambitious enthusiasts seeking dependable performance. Whether used for drum sub-miking, connecting multiple instruments, extending FOH capabilities, or supporting studio applications, the SD16 helps maintain organised cabling and efficient signal distribution throughout the system. The inclusion of rack-mount brackets further enhances its practicality, enabling straightforward installation in a standard 19" rack, while compatibility with numerous Behringer and Midas mixing consoles adds to its flexibility, making it a reliable and versatile choice for a variety of audio applications.
About Behringer
The company, which was founded in Germany by Uli Behringer and now manufactures its products in China, has been known for affordable and great-value equipment since its very first product, the Studio Exciter F. An array of mixing consoles (such as the Eurodesk MX8000), signal processors, and later sound amplification and monitoring equipment, has made it possible for countless musicians to fit out their home studios, practice rooms, and mobile PAs within budget limits that were previously unthinkable. The acquisition of other companies, including Midas, Klark Teknik, and TC Electronic, meant that new product groups were added - and also resulted in the technical expertise of these companies being incorporated into product development.
Compact and robust
With the Behringer SD16, the manufacturer delivers a compact stagebox that offers far more than an attractive price point. Its solid construction, flexible operation, and well-rounded feature set make it a practical addition to a wide range of audio setups, while the dual AES50 ports allow multiple units to be linked together when greater channel capacity is required. The integrated Ultranet connectivity further enhances its versatility by enabling personal monitoring signals to be distributed to several performers simultaneously, helping to streamline stage monitoring arrangements. As an expansion solution for systems such as the Behringer WING, X32, or Midas M32, the SD16 provides an accessible way to add extra inputs and outputs, all while remaining straightforward to configure and operate. The result is a reliable and capable unit that meets the needs of event technicians, musicians, and mobile audio professionals alike.
