The Behringer BA 19A is a boundary microphone that delivers a powerful sound, while its semi-cardioid polar pattern means it doesn't pick up background noise and won't generate feedback. The unit is contained in a robust metal housing, which effectively protects the microphone capsule and the electronic inner workings from damage. The Behringer BA 19A also offers an alternative to standard transmission thanks to its built-in two-stage EQ function. It has a couple more tricks up its sleeve too, like the LED ring around the XLR socket, which lights up when phantom power is activated.

Built-in EQ included

The Behringer BA 19A is a condenser microphone that requires 48V phantom power for operation, and according to the manufacturer's specs has a frequency range of 50Hz to 18kHz, with a relatively even, balanced frequency response curve between 30Hz and 5kHz that slowly drops off as the frequency increases. The mic's transmission mode can be altered by activating the EQ switch on the bottom of the device: The centre frequency will drop at levels of around 400Hz, allowing the aspects that are most important for a bass drum, such as the low end or the attack, to come into their own, while cutting midrange resonance.

Great in the kick and for FOK applications

Placed inside a bass drum, and used in neutral mode, the Behringer BA 19A boundary microphone will pick up impact noise and low end perfectly; if the built-in EQ is also activated, listeners will hear a clear emphasis on both the low end and the attack. Positioned on the floor in front of the drums and used as a front-of-kit microphone, the Behringer BA 19A also achieves excellent results that will make a considerable difference in the mix. Another possible application is with a cajón, where it's also best placed on the floor in front of the instrument.

Gekocht als experiment als oplossing voor de vaak krappe situaties op podia. Afgelopen weekeind voor het eerst gebruikt en onder de indruk van het geluid. Eerlijkheidshalve was er wel sprake van een erg goede drummer met een goed gestemde kick, dat zal ook wel schelen.
Mic signaal heeft erg weinig eq nodig; alleen wat "tik" erbij schuiven. is ook kwestie van smaak natuurlijk. Rejection van andere geluiden is ook prima. Het feit dat de mic in de ketel ligt helpt daar natuurlijk ook bij.
Ben benieuwd hoe het gaat verlopen als de mic voor hetere vuren komt te staan als in onbehouwen of juist te verlegen drummers die niet zo goed kunnen stemmen. Ook de degelijkheid/betrouwbaarheid op langere termijn is iets waar ik nieuwsgierig naar ben.
All in all: naar het zich laat aanzien een aanwinst !

Na eindeloos filmpjes op YouTube kijken besloten voor deze bass drum microfoon. Prima prijs en een werkelijk prima geluid. Je legt hem gewoon in je bass drum. Je bent af van de standaard en het geluid is heel erg goed. Goed hoeft dus niet altijd duur te zijn, want vergelijkbare microfoons van de concurrentie zijn veel duurder. Even opletten, deze microfoon heeft wel 48V fantoomstroom nodig. Ik ben heel blij met deze aanvulling.

Helder gedetailleerd geluid

Als geluidsman moet ik vaker een hoge akoestische piano uitversterken. Dat deed ik eerst met twee condensatormicrofoons op een standaard. Best wel lastig. En ik was twee kanalen kwijt op een toch al te klein bemeten mengpaneel. Ik besloot om deze grensvlakmicrofoon uit te proberen. In een enkel woord: geweldig! De microfoon geeft ieder detail kraakhelder weer met een enorm bereik van laag tot hoog. Weliswaar geen stereo spreiding meer, maar dat is geen gemis. Ik heb hem met klittenband bevestigd aan de binnenkant van de piano. Dus geen gedoe met een standaard meer. En een geweldig geluid. Ik ben er dik tevreden mee.

Hier kan je je geen buil aan vallen. Prima mic voor deze prijs. Beetje eq en een lekkere bassdrumsound.
