The 1010music Bluebox is an exceptionally compact digital mixer and multitrack recorder with twelve input channels. Its Eurorack-compatible format makes it ideal for mixing and recording modular setups – anything involving synthesizers, samplers, and drum machines. Each channel offers volume, gain, and mute/solo functions, along with a fully parametric 4-band EQ. The global effects include a high-quality reverb and delay, plus a master compressor. Recordings can be captured either as individual tracks or as a stereo mix, and saved directly to a microSD card – making it easy to work with multiple takes per track if needed. Operation is cutting-edge and yet intuitive, centred around a 3.5" touchscreen, four encoders for precise control, and a set of transport and navigation buttons.
As is standard for the Eurorack format, the inputs on the 1010music Bluebox are configured as unbalanced 3.5mm jack sockets. The twelve channels are distributed across six stereo inputs, which can also be run mono if Y-cables are used (not included). The inputs don't have integrated microphone preamps; instead, they're optimised to handle the high signal levels typical of Eurorack modules. However, they can also be used to patch in conventional line-level sources. On the output side, there are three independently controllable stereo channels (also 3.5mm jack sockets) for the main mix, an alternative mix, and headphones. Tracks can be freely routed to the available outputs, making it possible to configure up to three independent stereo mixes. MIDI I/O is included for external MIDI clock synchronisation with other tempo-based devices or effects.
Designed for electronic music producers, the 1010music bluebox is a compact, portable solution for mixing and recording hardware-based performances. Whether working with hardware synthesizers, samplers, or drum machines, it provides a straightforward way to centralise complete setups around a single mixing hub. A particularly useful feature is the ability to save all settings – including those for different setups – as project files, which can be recalled in seconds. Recorded material can be transferred to a computer via a card reader for further editing in DAW software if required.
1010music was founded in Los Angeles in 2016 and focuses on digital solutions for musical applications. Prior to creating their own products, the developers at 1010music had all worked for renowned companies on large software projects such as Native Instrument's Traktor DJ. 1010Music's creative modules – designed for Eurorack modular systems such as samplers, loopers, sequencers, synthesizers and effects – combine digital technology with analogue control and are all operated via multifunctional touch displays.
The outstanding craftsmanship of the 1010music Bluebox really shines in live EDM performances, where artists mix (and even record) a whole multitude of sound sources using one compact, intuitive module. The mixer view provides a clear overview of – and, more importantly, quick access to – key parameters across all channels, while the track view allows for more detailed control of individual channels. One handy feature for live gigs is the ability to route the main mix to the headphone output at the press of a button, for quick monitoring. Power is supplied via the USB power adapter included here, meaning it's also easy to run the Bluebox off a power bank for off-grid operation; equally practical is the fact that the USB device port can also be used to power other compatible gear.
