The Zoom H2n is a really nice portable recording device. There are several applications described, even recording live music.
'Till now i used it to record my drumkit, my voice (singing and talking) and i used it to record a couple guys playing acoustic guitar and a mouth harp.
Almost everything sounded really good..
Exept the drumkit, and this is the main reason why i bought it.
I Guess if you have a smaller drumkit it would be easier. My drumkit has:
- 1 snare
- 3 high toms
- 2 floor toms
- 2 bassdrums
- 1 high at
- 2 crashes
- 2 splashes
- 3 chinas
- 1 ride cymbal
With all this to record and just one mic, it's really hard to find the right place to put it. I watched some videos on youtube to see how other guys did it, i managed to get a half decent sound with the gain to 0 and the mic placed above the kit pointing at the center between my bassdrums. It picks up almost everything quite well, but it's really hard to get the bassdrum heard in the mix.
But concidering it's just one mic i am satisfied with the sound i can get after processing it.
