With its 6.5" woofer, the Yamaha HS 7 is the mid-range model in the HS Series and neatly fills the gap between its two siblings, the HS 5 and HS 8. It is also the best-selling speaker in the series. Yamaha specifies a frequency response of 43Hz to 30kHz, making it an ideal candidate for medium to large rooms. Of course, the HS 7 can be used in combination with the Yamaha HS 8S subwoofer. The "Room Control" and "High Trim" functions provide the speaker with dedicated EQs, one for bass and one for treble, so that the necessary corrections can be made, for example, when the speaker is placed directly against a wall.

Wat een verrassing

Kortom een topper in ieder opzicht:
Geluid is fantastisch, afwerking en features idem dito.

Ik gebruik deze monitors voornamelijk voor het luisteren van muziek. In ieder geval niet voor mixen e.d. (wat kennelijk vooral de doelgroep is).
Voorheen gebruikte ik vooral hoofdtelefoons (Beyerdynamic DT770 80ohm en Beyerdynamic DT990 250ohm) via amp/dac (Fostex HP-A3) en een setje in woonkamer (Harman Kardon Mas 100).
Eerlijk, deze speakers laten mij alle muziek opnieuw beleven, opnieuw ontdekken.

Via dezelfde amp/dac geprobeerd. Allereerst wat Chopin, toen Vivaldi en vervolgens Verdi. Ongelofelijk! Werkelijk, op ieder vlak qua tonen van grandioos niveau.
Gingen ze dit volhouden bij ieder genre?
Dolhpy, Coltrane en Mingus. Fantastisch! Zoals ik al zei; opnieuw je muziek ontdekken.
Verder met Bowie, Prince, The Doors en Chemical Brothers. Alles met glans doorstaan.

Om het af te maken ook de film Sicario en Whiplash geprobeerd. Laat niets liggen hier.

Voor games het spel Arma 3 geprobeerd; bijna te mooi qua geluid voor deze game!

Nogmaals, ik ben uiterst onder de indruk van deze actieve speakers en heb enkel positieve punten:
- geluid is uitstekend; strak, maar kleurrijk en absoluut mooie bas. Blijkbaar denkt men dat deze speakers dit niet voldoende biedt. Klopt, als de opname slecht is wel.
- Afwerking uitstekend en design is bijzonder mooi in mijn optiek.
- Ruim voldoende aansluitingen en onderdelen in te stellen (doch laatste zelf niet nodig gehad).

Geweldige speaker

Ik heb een setje van deze speakers in mijn werkkamer staan, welke ik ook als thuisstudio gebruik. Ik ben fan van geluid dat natuurgetrouw wordt doorgegeven en heb daar ook al mijn spullen op gekocht. Deze speaker is daar een hele goede koop bij geweest. In vergelijking met de torentjes die ik in mijn woonkamer heb staan vind ik hier een stuk fijner geluid uitkomen, zelfs op hogere volumes.

Ik had initieel last van ruis over deze speakers, en heb een lange tijd gezocht waar dit vandaan kwam. Maar dit was de schuld van de kabels die ik gebruikte. Het is aan te raden gebalanceerde kabels tussen de audio-interface en de speakers te zetten, want elk ruisje wat er in een ongebalanceerde kabel onstaat wordt duidelijk weergegeven.

De speakers zien er ook erg goed uit, de staan heel stijlvol met de witte speaker onderin. Het is aan te raden om de speakers wat van de muur af te plaatsen, aangezien de bas reflex poort achterin zit. Ik heb ze zelf op slechts een kleine afstand van de muur, maar wel richting hoeken gewezen, en hiermee krijg ik prima geluid.

Deze studio monitoren zijn top kwaliteit. Ze klinken uitstelen van lage tot hoge tonen en boventonen, bovendien produceren ze geen ruis. Het is absolute topkwaliteit tegen een goede prijs. De aansluiting op de audio interface in eenvoudig. Ik heb nu eindelijk goede monitoren, wat een absolute must is voor een musicus en componist als ik.

Ik raad dit product dus van harte aan!

Moet wel ff wennen ...

De HS7 set vervangt bij mij een Roland DS50A set, die ik al meer dan 20 jaar in gebruik had. Ik wilde meer bereik in de diepte en dat komt er ook uit :) Heb misschien wat aanpassingsproblemen met midden en hoog, dat voor mijn gevoel iets té is. En wellicht is het gewoon een kwestie van wennen.
