Alleskunner voor een prikkie

De Valeton GP-5 biedt ongelooflijk veel waar voor je geld. Voor de prijs van een degelijke tuner krijg je een pedaaltje dat amps kan simuleren, die om kan gaan met NAM- en IR-bestanden, die je kunt koppelen met Bluetooth om je begeleidingstrack op af te spelen. Drumcomputer zit er ook in. En oh ja, een tuner ook. Sluit hem aan op je speakers, koptelefoon of amp en je kunt aan de slag.

Naast 50 presets kun je ook je eigen maken, en kies je je favoriete top, cabinet, effect, pre-amp, enzovoorts. Of importeer een NAM-bestand van iemand die zijn 10.000 euro setup heeft opgenomen en gebruik die! Ik gebruik de GP-5 met mijn basgitaar om een wat voller livegeluid te krijgen gezien ik rechtstreeks het mengpaneel inga. En dat werkt top.

Het is een tikkeltje omslachtig om steeds met de app te moeten werken om nieuwe presets aan te maken. Ook liep hij geregeld vast op firmware versie 1.0.6, terugzetten naar 1.0.3 heeft dit opgelost. En door de enkele footswitch kun je minder snel wisselen tussen presets. Maar dit zijn kleine kritiekpunten, voor dit geld krijg je een ongelooflijk compleet apparaatje.

100% tevreden ben ik, maar ik snap (nog) niet hoe ik een video met mijn Android smartphone kan opnemen (live streaming), terwijl de GP-5 met een USB-C kabel is aangesloten. De smartphone's camera app luistert alleen maar naar zijn microfoon en niet naar de GP-5. Hele nacht bezig geweest (aarghh!).
Voor de rest: wát een mooie gitaar- en effectensounds! Voor het eerst in mijn leven staat mijn echte JCM800 Marshall al weken stof te verzamelen.

Bijzonder leuk pedaaltje!

Voor de prijs van een enkel effect pedaal koop je dit bijzonder leuke en veelzijdige pedaaltje met bijbehorende app. Een wereld van mogelijkheden gaat open. Sluit hem aan op je computer, telefoon, koptelefoon of gitaarcombo en je kan met de standaard patches en drumcomputer meteen al leuk experimenteren.

Ik heb het pedaal aangesloten op mijn kleine oefen bas-combo en heb hierdoor naast de drumcomputer en vele effecten ook meteen een Bluetooth functie toegevoegd. Super handig. Het bereik is niet heel erg groot, maar voldoende voor als je naast je setje zit. Zo kun je je combo nog gebruiken als Bluetooth speaker ook.

Omdat mijn Boss effect pedalen (en benodigde voedingen en patchkabels voornamelijk in de kast lagen, heb ik ze verkocht en vervangen door dit kleine pedaal. Ook mijn Zoom MS-60B moest het veld ruimen voor deze Valeton GP-5. Patches maak ik nu virtueel en de geluidskwaliteit en mogelijkheden zijn meer dan voldoende voor mijn toepassing.

Ik heb plezier met het uitproberen en samenstellen van effecten en patches. De app vind ik intuïtief en niet onnodig ingewikkeld. Als je eenmaal je favorieten helemaal hebt ingesteld, heb je de app voor deze dingen niet meer nodig.

Er zitten twee draaiknoppen en een voetschakelaar op de GP-5. Je kan ze nog enigszins configureren. De behuizing is gemaakt van lichtgewicht metaal. Het display is helder en duidelijk af te lezen. Voeding kan via USB-C of een klassieke adapter.

Mij is wel opgevallen dat het pedaal soms vastloopt en herstart moet worden. Ik gebruik een Android telefoon. Ik heb de indruk dat het voornamelijk misgaat bij het wijzigen en opslaan van instellingen. Het is nog nooit tijdens normaal gebruik ervan vastgelopen.

Al met al een harstikke leuk apparaatje. Klein qua omvang, groots qua mogelijkheden.

This is the MVP of this year but no one seems aware of the potential of it yet.
Listen, either you don't have the budget for bigger units or you like cheap and good stuff. For both, you're in the correct spot.
Are you aware of this thing can play NAM profiles for 80 euros?
Do you know what it means?
It means you're not only getting a bluetooth pedal with amp models, you're buying the freakin player. The world is yours now, go crazy, go find every expensive unit's neural model and play it for free.
Get a 30€ wireless midi footswitch, the chococolate one and you have a 5 switch unit and the best part is, this pedal can be powered by the footswitch and if you throw a small powerbank to the chocolate footswitch, it can also power the valeton as well and voila...You have a wireless/powerless setup. Go further and buy the harley benton wireless guitar jack and a small expression pedal and for 200€ you have an endless options / wireless / power cord free / versatile as f. setup.
