Thomann 11 3/4 Europe Slim Line Bass

This is a real find. Don't be fooled into thinking this is a cheap bass because the price is low, it's a fantastic instrument that plays really well and looks lovely.

First of all, yes it;s a laminate, but the grain on the top is straight and the flame in the sides and back is lovely to look at. The finish is really good too, smooth and even gloss.

The neck has a semi-matte, natural finish on the back, and the one complaint I have is the fingerboard join was a bit rough to the touch.

While the bass is slim-bodied it has terrific tone with no dead spots of wolf tones, it plays easily (beautifully set up by Thomann, thank you!) and looks beautiful.

Previously playing an electric upright bass, I was somewhat intimidated by my teachers acoustic bass - feeling it was too large & heavy for me to handle. It was a bit of a leap of faith mail-ordering this from another country with no real option to return. But I am delighted with it. To my trainee ear the sound is full, it keeps tune well and is much easier to manoeuvre than larger instruments.

Commande passée le 1er décembre, Contrebasse réceptionnée le 8 décembre, parfaitement emballée, et réglée exactement comme je la voulais ! Merci, c'est parfait. Associée aux Cordes Gut-a-like Black, la jouabilité de l'instrument est excellente, le son est là en acoustique, malgré son format "slim" : rien à envier à ses grandes s½urs ! Finition impeccable, poids contenu, cette contrebasse est un excellent rapport qualité prix et son format est un sérieux avantage quand il faut la déplacer. Le tarif est réellement incroyable au regard de la qualité (fabrication roumaine par Hora). En version "sonorisé", c'est un régal ! J'ai installé un capteur Shadow nanoflex NFX B : associé à mon pré-ampli Aguilar Tone Hammer et à mon 3 corps Ampeg Portaflex (PF350 + 115 + 210), le son est magnifique. L'ensemble supporte des volumes sonores élevés sans sourciller (la caisse de résonance plus petite est un atout pour ceux qui jouent "amplifié") : pas de larsen en vue. En pizzicato, tout passe dessus : impro, jazz, rockab'... Je n'ai pas encore testé l'archet pour le moment, mais je ne doute pas que le résultat soit très satisfaisant aussi. Pour conclure, je dirai que cet instrument est extrêmement polyvalent et pourra satisfaire des profils de musiciens très différents : débutants, itinérants, sonorisés, confirmés...
