The t.bone SCT 800 is an inexpensive large-diaphragm tube microphone that is sure to attract attention not only because of its low price, but also thanks to its self-noise of just 6.5dB(A), which is remarkably low for a tube mic of this kind. Classic tube technology is synonymous with gentle distortion, which is often perceived as warm and musical, and refines incoming signals. In the case of the t.bone SCT 800, a 12AX7 double triode tube (also known as an ECC83) is used for this purpose. The required voltage is provided by an external power supply, which is included in the scope of delivery along with an accompanying seven-pin XLR cable, a microphone shock mount, and a case. The SCT 800 represents the t.bone's take on classic tube microphones.

Warm basic sound
Behind the microphone grille of the t.bone SCT 800 sits a gold-sputtered diaphragm with a centre contact, which like the majority of large-diaphragm microphones has a diameter of 1". The SCT 800 employs a fixed cardioid directionality, and thus uses the most common polar pattern (not only for vocal recordings). In contrast to many other inexpensive entry-level microphones that try to flatter the ear with a particularly bright basic sound, the SCT 800 presents a pleasantly restrained high-frequency response. Accordingly, the basic sound is particularly soft and warm, and the microphone is also often praised for its midrange response, which is particularly well-balanced for a mic in this price range.
