Dynamic vocal mic, built to perform

The Shure PGA58 is a cardioid dynamic microphone designed for lead and backup vocal performance in live sound environments. Built around a moving coil capsule with a purpose-voiced frequency response running from 50Hz to 16kHz, it delivers the clarity and presence a singer needs to cut through a band mix without requiring phantom power or the careful handling associated with a condenser microphone. The cardioid polar pattern rejects off-axis sound from monitors and stage sources, and the low 150 ohm output impedance handles long cable runs without signal degradation. The all-black finish and grille give it a clean, unobtrusive stage presence. A stand adapter, zipper pouch, and XLR cable are included; an on/off switch on the body provides immediate control during performance.

Capsule and construction

The moving coil capsule requires no phantom power – the Shure PGA58 connects directly to any XLR input on a mixer or interface and operates immediately. The capsule is internally shock-mounted, reducing handling noise during performance; the robust die-cast construction is built to withstand the physical demands of regular live use. The frequency response is purpose-voiced for live vocals rather than remaining neutral. A gentle low-frequency roll-off helps control proximity effect, while subtle presence lifts through the upper midrange and around 10kHz improve intelligibility, articulation, and vocal definition. Beyond this region, the response falls away rapidly, helping reduce unwanted stage spill and excessive high-frequency detail. The on/off switch sits on the body for quick muting between songs or during announcements without reaching for the console.

A dependable partner on stage

The PGA58 is aimed at vocalists, gigging musicians, and small venues looking for a reliable dynamic vocal microphone at an accessible price point. Rehearsal rooms, smaller venues, entry-level live rigs, and backup microphone duties are its natural territory, where its vocal-focused response and robust construction make it a dependable choice for regular and versatile performances. Within the Shure range, the natural step up is the SM58, whose more refined capsule and long-established touring pedigree have made it an industry standard. For many performers, however, the PGA58 delivers the reliability and performance expected of a Shure dynamic microphone without stretching the budget.

About Shure

The American company Shure began developing microphones during the early 1930s and is one of the pioneers of the audio engineering sector. Models such as the 55 Unidyne – known to many as the "Elvis microphone" – and the SM57 and SM58 which appeared in the mid-1960s are still ubiquitous in live sound production today. They enjoy cult status among musicians and technicians alike. In the 1990s, Shure introduced the first wireless microphones and in-ear monitoring systems and became a market leader in this field. In addition to microphones, Shure offers a wide range of earphones and headphones for studio and live use, as well as various accessories.

Working the microphone

Designed for close vocal work, the Shure PGA58 takes advantage of the natural proximity effect to add warmth and body to the low-mid frequencies, helping vocals sit confidently in the mix. Slight off-axis positioning is a tried-and-tested way to naturally reduce plosives without noticeably affecting vocal tone. The cardioid pattern has its null point directly behind the capsule, so it's best to position floor monitors behind and below the microphone, which maximises potential gain before feedback. The on/off switch is useful for solo performers and presenters who move between speaking and playing, eliminating the need to mute the channel at the console between segments. The 4.5m XLR cable and microphone clamp included here means the PGA58 comes with everything needed to get started right out of the box.

They Shure do the Job well
Noel H. 18.05.2015
We got these Mics for our Club we are a mixed group of Adults and Children.
Features on the PGA58s are good we need an on/off switch and we need our Mics to be hard wearing as we have so many users. the Shure PGA58s are up to the Job.
Sound on the Shure PGA58s is well up there we used them for recording and preforming and the sound quality is very good with sweet tones from the acoustic Guitar.
Quality is good we have used Shure Mics for a long time with no problems and we can't see these as been any different.

Exceptional microphone
Soulito 10.01.2019
My brother and I bought two of these Mics for our band.
We needed two microphones, that had an on/off switch and we wanted our Mics to be hard wearing. We thought that two Shure PGA58's are up to the Job. And we were right; the sound quality is very good, combined with sweet tones from my brother's acoustic Guitar.
It is, in my opinion, a perfect microphone: clean and defined.

Note: The SHURE PGA58 is a top microphone, and it's almost identical to the SM58 (but significantly cheaper!). A real alternative to the classic; it's really, really good!

Ausgezeichnetes Gesangsmikrofon ! Empfehlenswert !
Markus S. 67 14.09.2015
