Beta instrument microphone
The Shure Beta 57A is a dynamic microphone with a supercardioid polar pattern, specifically designed for instrument miking. With a frequency response of 50Hz to 16kHz and a sensitivity of 2.8mV/Pa, it provides a powerful, clear sound, delivering precise reproduction of percussion, wind instruments, and guitar amplifiers. The Beta 57A is built to last, with a sturdy housing and wire mesh grille that offer reliable protection for both the capsule and the internal electronics. Its redesigned hardened steel mesh grille also facilitates use of the proximity effect as well as resisting wear and tear.
Optimised reproduction
The Beta 57A features a characteristic presence boost, common in many Shure microphones, which enhances transparency and clarity. To prevent overly sharp sounds, such as sibilance, there's a gentle dip in the critical 6kHz range. Powered by a neodymium magnet, the microphone offers high sensitivity and output levels that are impressive for a dynamic mic. Its supercardioid polar pattern effectively isolates the desired sound source, minimising off-axis tone colouration and providing strong feedback rejection.
Technicians, bands & instrumentalists
The Shure Beta 57A is engineered for professional environments, offering a powerful, clear, and present sound thanks to its tailored frequency response. It excels at capturing not only instruments but also vocals with remarkable clarity. With its exceptional build quality and impressive sound performance, the Beta 57A delivers excellent value for money. Professional sound engineers, musicians, and bands will find this microphone to be a reliable and high-quality choice.
About Shure
The American company Shure began developing microphones during the early 1930s and is one of the pioneers of the audio engineering sector. Models such as the 55 Unidyne – known to many as the "Elvis microphone" – and the SM57 and SM58 which appeared in the mid-1960s are still ubiquitous in live sound production today. They enjoy cult status among musicians and technicians alike. In the 1990s, Shure introduced the first wireless microphones and in-ear monitoring systems and became a market leader in this field. In addition to microphones, Shure offers a wide range of earphones and headphones for studio and live use, as well as various accessories.
On stage and in the studio
The Beta 57A dynamic microphone is ideal for live performances thanks to its robust design. Its durability ensures that accidental drops on stage are unlikely to cause significant damage, while a pneumatic shock mount prevents mechanical interference. An internal pop filter effectively reduces wind and breath noise. Additionally, its exceptional feedback resistance and impressive suppression of off-axis noise contribute to a cleaner stage performance. The Beta 57A also performs exceptionally well in the studio, delivering a powerful and clear sound that stands out in any recording setting.
