The invisible production centre
The RodeCaster Video Core combines professional video switching, audio mixing, scene creation, and streaming in a remarkably compact unit, serving as the central hub for a wide range of production workflows. Instead of relying on a traditional interface with buttons, faders, and a touchscreen, Rode has prioritised software-based control through the RodeCaster app, allowing operation, monitoring, and configuration to take place directly on the user's main screen while the hardware remains discreetly in the background. The concept also lends itself to permanent studio installations and creators already using a RodeCaster Pro II or Duo, with RodeCaster Sync enabling straightforward integration into existing audio workflows while adding professional video and streaming capabilities. This creates a production environment that can be expanded as requirements grow, yet remains quick to set up and simple to manage in day-to-day use. The result is a practical and capable solution that stays out of the way without sacrificing functionality or performance.
State-of-the-art connectivity
Despite its compact dimensions, the RodeCaster Video Core provides the processing power and connectivity required for demanding productions, built as it is around the same octa-core platform found in the larger models in the series. Three HDMI inputs support the integration of traditional cameras, while up to four NDI sources can be connected via the Ethernet port, making it well suited to both conventional and network-based production workflows. Several USB-C ports accommodate computers, storage devices and compatible audio and video equipment, and two professional Neutrik combo sockets with Rode's own preamps are available for microphones, instruments, and line-level sources. This flexibility allows the Video Core to handle traditional multi-camera productions alongside hybrid setups that combine a variety of signal sources. Smartphones can also be incorporated as additional cameras using the free Rode Capture app, with support for output resolutions of up to 1080p.
Much more than just live streams
The RodeCaster Video Core shows its strengths when productions need to be not only recorded or streamed live, but also refined afterwards in post-production. ISO recording provides additional flexibility by saving individual video and audio sources separately, allowing camera cuts, audio levels, and even unexpected mistakes to be adjusted at a later stage. EDL export further streamlines the process by transferring editing information directly to DaVinci Resolve, removing the need to manually recreate the structure of the original production. The advantages are equally clear during live streams with smaller teams, where features such as Auto-Switch can automatically follow the active speaker and handle part of the directing process. Managing multiple cameras for YouTube, Twitch or corporate communication, along with microphones connected via XLR or compatible Rode wireless systems, the Video Core brings these elements together through a discreet and efficient central interface.
About Rode
Founded in Sydney, Australia in 1990, Rode has built a reputation as a specialist for high-quality studio microphones. The company's first product, the large-diaphragm NT1, was made entirely in-house in Australia: It quickly became a classic, and a variety of NT1 models remain in production to this day. Over the years, Rode has steadily expanded its portfolio to include a comprehensive selection of studio, live, and wireless microphones, with regular updates and additions to the lineup. More recently, the company has broadened its offering with a wide range of solutions for video, broadcasting, streaming, and content creation, establishing itself as a versatile provider of modern audio technology.
For reliable studio set-ups
The RodeCaster Video Core is particularly suited to podcasters looking to extend their existing audio workflow into video production without significantly changing their current setup. When paired with a RodeCaster Pro II or Duo, it creates a versatile production environment that combines established audio workflows with live production, streaming, and multi-camera recording. The Ethernet connection is designed with fixed studio installations in mind, providing a reliable foundation for network-based workflows. With its compact design, flexible control options, and comprehensive production capabilities, the Video Core is aimed at creators who want to keep their existing setup efficient and organised while maintaining professional standards for recording, streaming, and post-production. For those who prefer a more traditional hands-on approach, physical control surfaces are available on the related RodeCaster Video S and flagship RodeCaster Video models.
In the spotlight
Rode software, Rode hardware
The RodeCaster ecosystem can be managed using the free RodeCaster app, which provides drag-and-drop scene creation, detailed mixer configuration, remote control, and a wide range of additional settings directly from a computer. The audio section follows a similarly comprehensive approach, with each of the nine channels offering a full processing chain including EQ, compressor, noise gate, high-pass filter, and de-esser. This is further enhanced by Rode's renowned APHEX processors – Aural Exciter, Big Bottom and Compellor – which help add clarity, depth, and consistency to vocal recordings. The Revolution preamps built into the XLR inputs deliver exceptionally low-noise performance and provide ample gain even for more demanding dynamic microphones. Developed and manufactured in Sydney, Australia, the entire RodeCaster platform reflects a unified approach in which hardware, software, and core audio technologies work together so well because they all come from a single source.
