The Australian company Rode has been specialising in really useful equipment for audio and video production for some time now. Their new NTH-100 headphones have an unusual and sophisticated design which puts premium sound quality centre stage: Still, Rode has combined this with a high level of usability and comfort. The proprietary "Fit Lock" technology, the Alcantara earcup covers (an extremely soft and durable synthetic material), and the CoolTech padding enable fatigue-free listening for hours on end. It's what's inside that counts

Paired 40mm drivers made of high-performance neodymium, a special voice coil with an elaborate aluminium alloy, and an extremely rigid three-layer Mylar diaphragm are just a few of the technical highlights of the NTH-100. The frequency response of 5Hz to 35kHz is impressive indeed, and thanks to the low impedance of 32 ohms, the Rode headphones can be used with smartphones or tablets without any problems. Comfort is guaranteed by the spring steel headband and the adjustable FitLock earcups, which allow each user to customise the NTH-100 to their own needs while keeping everything in place, even under demanding circumstances. One particular highlight is the CoolTech Gel padding, which not only moulds itself to the wearer's ears, but also cools the skin at the same time, guaranteeing hours of listening pleasure.

Endlessly customisable

We've all been there – playing an instrument while wearing headphones usually means the cable getting in the way at some point. This can be a real hindrance, especially when performing. The Rode NTH-100 does away with this problem by allowing its cable to be attached to either the right or left earcup, freeing up the user's playing hand and eliminating most difficulties at a stroke. Rode also offers cables for the NTH-100 in different lengths (1.2m and 2.4m) and different colours, allowing the headphones to be customised to suit all needs and tastes. And by combining the NT-100 with Rode's MTH-100 microphone, users get a professional, broadcast-quality headset, with the MTH-100 simply plugged into the socket installed on the NTH-100 for this very purpose.

Great headphones that are incredibly comfortable to wear, but with a serious flaw

I've owned two of these now, and while I absolutely love them, they have a serious flaw. The plastic part that locks the earcups in place have now, on both units, suffered the same stress fracture which causes it to break apart completely. This is an incredible and serious design flaw, and it's unbelievable that they haven't discovered this during the design and engineering phase - something puts too much pressure on the plastic joint, causing it to break even with completely normal use. Sucks, because I really like these phones!

Really comfortable headset but they keep breaking where you adjust the size of the head band. We have return twice already and embarrassed to return a third time.
