Excellent value for money, great fun to play, will keep it forever
Johnny Dee 15.02.2018
I've been looking into small parlor sized guitars for a while and tried various brands and models. With the return policy in mind I gave the Recording King RPS-7-MBK a try. Once I got it home, unpacked it and played it, it sounded far better than I expected for such a low price. And after changing the factory strings to D'Addario Phosphor Bronze 0.11's and playing it daily for a few weeks it really opened up.

To me it sounds and handles far better than all the Gretsch parlor models I've tested in shops locally and I've tested them all.

I've been playing guitars for almost 40 years and I've never before bought a guitar that was so hard to put down. It is excellent for playing finger style (with or without a thumb pick) and even handles strumming in gypsy jazz or swing style really well.

The only thing that could be improved upon is the action of the guitar. And so I did, by sanding down the bridge saddle on a piece of sandpaper. This was only a few minutes work, anyone can do it.

I might consider upgrading the bridge saddle with a Graph Tech TUSQ Saddle somewhere in the future, but all in all it is a great little guitar as it is.

So, if you are in for a fun little parlor guitar, or just want to add another guitar to your life on a limited budget, I would strongly suggest you give this little gem a try.

Love and hate
George B 14.07.2020
This is the best to describe it, some days I can't stop playing it and some days I better throw it from the window.
Don't recomend it if you are advanced player, if you are low budget as me, save a little more, is not a bad instrument, is not a bad brand, only need a solid top better.
Somehow will find my way around to get the instrument ready and with a decent sound, finally get this one ready by installing a fishman and using IR's. Ok may sound a little harsh but, laminate and small dont come easily together very well. I really try to like the guitar.
Out of the box, the action was too high, and needed rod adjust, the strings were dull, dead, after correcting all that the guitar is comfortable to play, intonation is ok, is not like a baseball bat, ...almost, but I started with an old mex tele, so I had no prob with wider necks, but the sound is poor, with no sustain, not what I was looking for, but that was my bad
So, go for a solid top, or if you are a beginer and like the look, by all means buy it, it isn't a bad guitar for start but if you need it, don't do it.
Sorry for beeing the grinch, it just didn't fit me, you can think and what do you expect for that price? well, yes, my bad, I just try to be honest

Very nice guitar for the money
StefanVe 11.01.2019
The guitar feels very nice to play, it has an open sound it was setup with low action which worked fine without buzzing.

Of course, there are things with it that reveals the price tag, most notably the fret edges that are quite sharp and unpleasant. I spend half an hour to file them down, but to get them to feel like ¤500 guitar one would need to spend many hours. I do think many luthiers have "fret fixing" machines and can fix that for maybe ¤25 euros.

Fretboard feels a bit strange, I have no idea what "Revebond" is, but it did not feel great. I guess that it will feel different after a few months of use because it will definitely be used, in spite of the unpleasant fret edges.

I have a Taylor and a high end Yamaha acoustic as well, but I tend to always reach for the Recording King

Good value!
janosik 25.03.2021
I own this guitar for one year now. So i decided to leave feedback.

PROS:
- looks - really classy and 30's vibe is definitely there!
- a real bone nut and saddle (suprising in this price range)
- tuners that actually works pretty well (no need to change, stable)
- long scale, authentic 1930's "boxy" sound, strong midrange, nasaly sound
- finish is nice to touch and well applied
- very nicely playing guitar, almost no fret buzz
- price - definitely good value for the money
- neck is straight, guitar is in tune on 12th fret (surprising) and the fretboard is actual wood

CONS:
- needs some adjustment to play better than out-of-the box: some fret-ends needed to be smoothed out, bone saddle was a bit high, so lowering it with a sandpaper led to lower string action
- needs a better strings than factory strings
- fretboard was a bit rough and dry, I smoothed it out with fine steal wool
- sound - do not expect much, it's a cheap guitar :-)
- fretboard decals are actually painted

SUMMARY
Nice looking stylish guitar with great looks and after some setup or upgrades really fine instrument - fun to play! Projects well!
