Proel V12 Free, three-quarter perspective

Imagine a speaker that produces enormous sound pressure – but doesn't need a power supply to generate its outstanding output. The Proel V12 Free's built-in rechargeable battery of makes all this possible. Equipped with a 12" woofer and a Class D amp, the V12 has a variety of inputs and an integrated media player that can play WAV, MP3, and WMA files, using either a USB stick, an SD card, or a smartphone or tablet via Bluetooth. The sound can be fine-tuned with the V12's practical mixer, with an echo effect available for any microphones being used. The Proel V12 Free has an integrated trolley handle to transport it to the venue and manoeuvre it on stage, where it can be simply placed on the floor or elevated with an optional speaker stand. To complete the set-up for live gigs, Proel also manufactures wireless microphones. A power cable to charge the battery is, of course, included as standard.

Self-sufficient solid sound

The V12's lithium-ion battery delivers up to ten hours of sound. This little powerhouse – its mostly synthetic housing means it weighs only 11kg – is equipped with a 12" woofer with a 2" voice coil and a horn-loaded 1" neodymium compression driver, all of which provide plenty of power over its 90°/60° H/V dispersion pattern. The Class D amplifier provides 400W peak and 200W continuous output, and the speaker delivers up to 123dB SPL and operates in the frequency range from 50Hz to 20kHz. Three inputs are available, the first of which is for connecting the media player or a line signal via a mini jack or RCA cable; the other two are equipped with XLR/jack inputs. A simple treble/bass control allows users to optimise their sound, and for recordings or attaching second speaker, Proel has also thrown in a line out. After five hours of charging, the Proel V12 Free is ready for its next gig.

Simple setup, perfect performances

Beginners will find that the Proel V12 Free is an ideal speaker for amplifying their performances independently of a power connection. And although it's very easy to operate, thanks to the streamlined mixer on the back of the device, the V12 still delivers a lot of sound pressure, making it especially appealing to entertainers who use playback; they'll also love its flexibility, in terms of both storage media and the file formats it's compatible with. For first-time performers in small venues, or for salespeople in need of stress-free voice amplification at a trade fair stand, the rechargeable battery not only eliminates long power cables, but also drastically reduces setup time. The input section offers sufficient inputs for solo artists (or indeed duos or trios), and mobile DJs can simply connect their sound source to the line input. Its ease of use also makes it ideal for house parties, office presentations, and shows at schools or youth centres. Wherever it's used, the summing EQ gives the V12's sound that extra bit of polish.
