On-Stage SB96+

Ik was op zoek naar een stabiel statief voor wat zwaardere microfoons. (Denk aan U67, U87 etc.) De meeste statieven zijn zelfs met een korte boom niet stabiel genoeg. Het aanbod is vrij beperkt, maar deze On-Stage SB96+ doet wat hij doen moet.
Na het in elkaar zetten wiebelde de 4-poot een beetje, maar dat was op te lossen door een stevige druk naar beneden uit te oefenen. Hierna stond alles stabiel.
Stabiliteit, zelfs met uitgeschoven boom is goed, hoewel ik niet de volle lengte nodig heb. Nóg mooier was het geweest als het contra-gewicht verschuifbaar zou zijn geweest, maar goed, er moet altijd iets te wensen overblijven!
Goed doordacht zijn de scharnierpunten met 'tanden', waardoor de boel nooit ongewenst kan verschuiven.
Wel even in de gaten houden dat het statief 5/8" draad heeft. Voor de meeste Europese microfoons is dus een verloopje nodig!

I bought the On-Stage SB96+ with very specific expectations. I wasn't looking for a workhorse that would be moved, adjusted and repositioned all day long in a busy commercial studio. If that is what you need, I would probably recommend investing in a higher-end stand.
For my application, however, it makes perfect sense. I needed a large studio stand that could be set up in one position, hold a fairly heavy microphone securely and then stay there most of the time. For that kind of use, the SB96+ does the job very well.
You can certainly feel that this is not a premium studio stand. The construction and adjustment mechanisms don't have the refinement or confidence of much more expensive professional models. But that has to be considered in relation to the price. I simply couldn't justify spending three times as much on a stand that isn't going to be adjusted or rolled around the studio constantly.
Once assembled and properly positioned, it is stable, practical and perfectly adequate for my needs. The casters are also useful when it occasionally does need to be moved.
So my recommendation depends entirely on the intended use: for heavy daily studio work with constant repositioning, I would look elsewhere. For a home or project studio where the stand will mostly remain set up with a microphone in position, the SB96+ offers a lot of functionality for the money.
