The mother of Moog's modular ecosystem

The Moog Mother-32 is an analogue desktop synthesizer with a clear connection to the modular world, combining simplicity, flexibility and the distinctive character associated with Moog instruments. At its heart are a single oscillator, a filter and an amplifier driven by an ASD envelope, providing the essentials without unnecessary complexity. Despite its streamlined design, it delivers an authentic Moog sound, integrates effortlessly with modular setups and other synthesizers, and offers ample scope for future expansion. Bringing together the classic Moog character and practical modular compatibility, the Mother-32 is a straightforward platform that provides an ideal entry point to the world of Moog.

It's all about connectivity

The Mother-32 has a great range of modern features, including a 32-step sequencer with 64 memory locations, providing plenty of scope for creating and storing patterns. Although a traditional keyboard is absent, the front-panel keypad makes it easy to play simple notes and, more importantly, serves as an intuitive way to programme sequences. The 32-point patchbay opens up a wide range of possibilities, allowing virtually every parameter to be controlled via control voltage and encouraging deeper experimentation. Fully compatible with Eurorack voltage standards, the instrument is designed to integrate into modular environments, and anyone building a dedicated Eurorack system can remove the Mother-32 from its wooden enclosure and mount it directly into a standard rack.

Everything is expandable

The Moog Mother-32 offers an excellent introduction to both the world of Moog synthesis and modular systems, providing a versatile and inspiring platform without requiring a major investment. Its straightforward design makes experimentation accessible, while the ability to expand and integrate with larger setups ensures long-term flexibility. Far from being limited to beginners, it also appeals to experienced modular users thanks to its compact footprint, capable architecture, and practical feature set. Combined with its excellent sequencer, the Mother-32 stands as a compelling alternative to building a similar synth voice from individual modules.

About Moog

The US manufacturer of synthesizers, based in Asheville, North Carolina, is one of the pioneers in this field and has legendary status. Robert Moog had been involved with electronic sound generation since the 1950s and his first experience was with the manufacture of theremins. The breakthrough came in 1968 with the Grammy-winning album "Switched-On Bach" by musician Wendy Carlos (then known as Walter Carlos), recorded in multitrack with a mono synthesizer. The Minimoog, released in 1971, became the most popular synthesizer of the 1970s and is still considered the benchmark for the quality of synthesised sounds. It and the following devices, like the Memorymoog, Polymoog, and Prodigy, shaped the sound of countless albums, from Stevie Wonder to The Police and from Saga to Kraftwerk.

This mother's a team player

The Moog Mother-32 is a remarkably capable instrument in its own right, delivering a powerful analogue sound and a feature set that covers all the essentials with ease. Its real strength, however, becomes apparent when paired with other devices, whether alongside additional Mother-32 units or complementary instruments such as Moog's DFAM. This focus on integration is reflected in the availability of dedicated stands, designed specifically for combining multiple units into a cohesive setup. Flexible, expandable and highly collaborative by nature, the Mother-32 fits comfortably into a wide range of creative environments, making it an enjoyable and rewarding instrument for both newcomers and experienced synthesists alike.

Prachtig icm harmonizers en time based effecten, brengt hem helemaal tot leven.

This one is my first synth. And I think it's the best choice for that price. Good synth to learn and understand basics of the analog sound design.
This one with some VST plugins (like Decapitator from Soundtoys) could make really good and fat bassline. Square osc have so much juicy sound. But know, anyone VST synth have a more fuction and there are high probability that you plays with this synth month or two, then your synth wiil collect dust in the corner. If you need some more necessary studio stuffs - just think if you really needed this.

Of the minuses-MIDI connection is periodically knocked down and begins an arbitrary pressing of one note. To get rid of it, you need to start the sequencer and immediately turn it off.Well, keep in mind that one oscillator on a monophonic synth is still a serious minus, since you will not be able to enjoy finding new sounds along with harmonies (if you play piano), and you will not be able to immediately make some unique sound. This synth is more suitable for bass and arpeggio parts, as well as for blending and blending sounds into one ready. In this case, you must clearly understand what You want to do and how to achieve it. Otherwise, synth you quickly get bored and you will be disappointed in its capabilities. If you proffesionalnoy twist synth and continue to stick for an hour or two winding one sound or arpeggio, then you will mix to the result dilei and reverbs, then this synth is what you need. It is convenient to take with you on vacation and twist on it.

The Mother of them all...

An East Coast style voice with a 32 patch points with a fairly well featured sequencer in the Eurorack format from Moog; that is the M32. At this price point and coming from Moog i think its fair, considering that a standalone sequencer can almost reach its value in price.
It can easily be the stating point to entry the Eurorack format or it could be the center of a small system if this is sort of thing you look for.

The patch points:
It has all the patch points in/outs that you would expect which were already included on its predecessor the the Werkstatt 01, but it adds some that can otherwise be found in individual modules offered by several brands, for example CV MIX act as a VCA/mixer, attenuator (for audio and CV signals), fixed voltage source/offset. A MULT section is also included for sending signal to different destinations. Tempo/clock/run/reset for controlling the sequencer and the most exciting one is Assignable out, which can deliver clocks, accent, variable CV, triggers and more via midi values.

As a personal opinion, the highlight of the M32 is the sequencer which is very hands on and having the patch points away from the knobs and buttons, it makes it very comfortable to play, you always know which octave you are in and the feedback of the sequence is also very good once you get to know it.
Having the Moog filter in the Eurorack format is definitely a plus for many, but i have the feeling that something changed this time when designing this filter, my ears tell me that my Werkstatt's filter delivers a better creamy bass response than the M32, even with a good amount of resonance. But at the end this just a matter of preferences.

The way i use it is next to West coast style modules so that i can get the best of each philosophy and also get all types of synthesis not only subtractive synthesis.
