Larsen Magnacore Cello Strings Medium

Many amateur and professional cellists use Larsen A and D strings, either the soloist edition or standard timbre, with Thomastik Spirocore Tungsten G and C. Larsen has recently starting producing the Magnacore line designed to capture this market and has priced this string set slightly less than the hybrid set would cost. I play regularly but not often enough professionally to justify paying $300 for strings every year or eighteen months, so a cheaper set means I'm more likely to replace more frequently, which in the end makes more of a difference than the exact set of high-end strings you use.

These strings produce a strong, rich sound. Particularly nice is that the responsiveness is very similar for each string, which is something you don't get with the hybrid set. The tungsten G and C do have more of a "twang" than I remember my last set of Spirocores having, but it's gotten much better after a week, so I'm expecting them to mellow out within a month. I'm very happy with these strings and will purchase them in the future as long as the pricing remains competitive.
