At first glance, the Harley Benton PJ-4 HTR Deluxe Series electric bass looks like a typical P-style bass. The design is spot on: An poplar body with a red "Hot Rod" finish that brings out the grain of the wood perfectly. This passive bass's maple neck with its 20 frets seems quite ordinary at first, the fingerboard is what makes it special. This is made of dark baked maple called roseacer - a great substitute for rosewood, which is now protected by conservation law and for which alternatives need to be found. But the most convincing feature is the combination of pickups. The "PJ" in the name stands for the combination of the very best of both worlds - a P-style split coil with a J-style single coil. A wide range of sounds is thus available, and at an unbeatable price to boot.

P-style design with an added extra

At first sight, the PJ-4 HTR resembles a P-style bass in terms of feel - but there are differences when it comes to the hardware. In addition to the typical P-style split coil, there is also a J-style single coil, and each pickup has its own volume control. This way, bassists can get the typical full-bodied, growly mid-range Rock sound from the split coil, but they can also look forward to a punchy sound with plenty of high-end twang from the single coil. Given this combination, the sound will definitely stand out in a mix. If that's not enough, the passive tone control provides a more muffled, vintage-like sound, so the tonal options are many and varied. The chrome-plated machine heads come in their own design and are much smaller than the classic P-style ones, which means that the bass is not top-heavy at all and maintains the optimum weight.

Geweldig voor de prijs

Niet verder kijken als je een beginners bas zoekt. Dit is m toch echt!

Deze bas gekocht voor studio opname. Het ziet er stevig uit, kwam gestemd uit de doos (dus na 5 dagen vervoer!) en speelt lekker. Lekkerder als de goedkope fender jazz en precision bass waar ik wekelijks op speel op mijn werk. De toonregeling lijkt weinig te doen. Ik heb ergens gelezen dat dit komt omdat ze te hoog zijn afgesteld en dit klopt volgens mij ook, mogelijk zijn het gitaar pots (knopjes waar je aan draait voor de toon regeling).

Voor de prijs 5 sterren maar om het nog beter te maken ga ik; nieuwe betere snaren, Duncan SPB1 + SJB1 (Precision en Jazz) pickup erin doen met nieuwe bedrading en pot meters, en ik ga ook de pickguard omspuiten als ik toch bezig ben. want die is me toch lelijk.

Goeie bas voor een mooi bedrag

Kwalitatief goeie bas voor zowel de beginner als de ervaren bassist.
Zowel de P & J pickup geven een mooi en rond geluid.
De klassieke p klank zit erin zowel als het j randje.
Levering was ook snel en goed.
het enige min punt is de kleur, ik had graag meer opties gezien (donker groen zou vet zijn)

Wonderful versatile Bass

As a guitarist I was looking for a good simple bass for home recording and because of earlier very satisfactory experience with a Harley Benton Les Paul guitar I ended up again at the Thomann website and decided for the Harley Benton PJ-4 HTR Deluxe Series.
What a wonderful bass guitar, playing it now 3 months and very happy with it. Unbelievable what you get for the money. The bass is very versatile and sounds good as it comes out of the box, however after playing it for a couple of weeks this is what I did to make it even more perfect for me:
I profoundly polished the frets and oiled the fretboard, exchanged the stock round wounds for flat wounds D?Addario chromes ECB81, which sound lovely full deep and clear and feel like silk.
Replaced the ?funny? pickguard with the Red Pearl PB-Pickguard of D?Andrea, which combines beautifully with the dark wine red Harley Benton PJ-4 HTR. (Requires a few adaptations and you need some skills for doing that)

Ik heb deze bas nu bijna 1.5 jaar, en er wordt nog regelmatig op gespeeld. Wat bevalt deze bas mij goed, uit de doos moest er wel wat bijgesteld worden hier en daar om het bespelen wat prettiger te maken. Maar in principe is hij uit de doos direct een prima beginners bas. Met wat tweaking is het gewoon een prima basgitaar, al helemaal voor deze prijs.
