Powerful grooves built on FM synthesis

The Elektron Model:Cycles reimagines the concept of a groovebox from the ground up. Instead of relying on samples or traditional subtractive synthesis, every sound is generated through FM synthesis – showcasing just how dynamic and versatile FM can be beyond classic bell tones or sharp bass lines. Elektron's custom algorithms deliver distinctive drum, melody, and chord sounds that can be shaped with just a few intuitive controls, modulated with dedicated LFOs, and arranged into club-ready grooves using a versatile sequencer. Built-in reverb and delay add depth and space, enhancing each pattern with character and atmosphere. Six velocity- and pressure-sensitive pads enable expressive performances and real-time sequencing, while MIDI connectivity lets musicians use the Model:Cycles to control external instruments as well.

Six engines for six tracks

The Model:Cycles offers six versatile sound engines – Kick, Snare, Metal, Perc, Tone, and Chord – each designed to deliver a wide range of sonic possibilities. Sounds are shaped using the 12-dial matrix, providing access to both global controls and four dedicated parameters per engine. Any engine can be assigned to any of the six tracks, allowing complete flexibility, with no fixed routing. The drum engines, as well as the Tone engine, which can be used for bass or synth sounds, are both monophonic and tonal. The Chord engine provides a selection of chord types, as well as unison modes with adjustable detune for thicker textures. The built-in sequencer supports patterns of up to 64 steps, with the ability to lock parameter changes to individual steps using parameter locks. Each engine also includes a dedicated, synchable LFO, enabling deep, dynamic modulation and expressive sound design.

A minimalist approach to groove-making

The Elektron Model:Cycles delivers a refreshing balance of simplicity and ouput, making it the perfect groovebox for both creative exploration and live performance. Its six FM-based sound engines and intuitive sequencer are built for speed and efficiency, letting ideas flow effortlessly from inspiration to finished groove. Even newcomers can start programming beats and melodies within minutes thanks to the clear, hands-on layout. Built for the stage as well as the studio, the Model:Cycles features a lightweight yet durable plastic housing and a stable base that make it perfectly suited for mobile setups and on-the-go production. Bright, responsive controls ensure reliable operation even in dimly lit environments. In terms of connectivity, the groovebox offers a stereo output and dedicated headphone jack for monitoring, along with TRS MIDI I/O compatible with both Type A and Type B standards – ensuring seamless integration into any production or live setup.

About Elektron

The Swedish firm Elektron was founded in Gothenburg in 1998. The company develops tools for producers, artists, and DJs to perfect their respective crafts. The company's award-winning Overbridge software is designed to seamlessly integrate electronic musical instruments into computer-based DAWs as controllers and as external sound cards. Elektron is continuously bringing new innovations to the market in order to seamlessly integrate music into our day-to-day lives.

Creativity through simplicity

The Elektron Model:Cycles makes groove-making fast and intuitive. Sounds can be selected and programmed into the sequencer using the track and step buttons in classic step-sequencing style, or recorded in real time with adjustable quantisation, resolution, and swing. Sound parameters and effects can be automated per step or captured live, where performers can play the dials like an instrument for dynamic, evolving patterns. Even during playback, grooves can be tweaked and reshaped on the fly. While the interface may appear minimal, this design inspires experimentation – inviting users to push boundaries, apply clever hacks, and discover new ways to personalise their beats and performances.
