The Antelope Audio Discrete 8 Oryx Synergy Core is a 19" rackmount audio interface designed for professional users who demand both comprehensive functionality and high-quality performance. It offers eight microphone/line preamps, two of which feature switchable Hi-Z sensitivity for connecting electric stringed instruments. On the output side, there are eight line outputs, a dedicated stereo monitor output, and four independent headphone outputs. Coaxial S/PDIF inputs and outputs are included alongside ADAT connectivity for up to 16 channels of additional I/O. There's even a dedicated reamping output. Over USB-C, the interface can transfer 24 channels in each direction at sample rates of up to 192kHz. To round things out, the Antelope Audio Discrete 8 Oryx Synergy Core provides fully programmable routing and near-zero-latency monitoring complete with effects running on its internal signal processors.

Eight microphone preamps
At the heart of the Antelope Discrete 8 Oryx Synergy Core are its eight discrete microphone preamps, which are based on Antelope's own transparent-sounding circuit design and are each built around six transistors. Compared with the preamps found in the Discrete 4 and 8 Pro Synergy Core models, the maximum gain has been increased to 75dB, making it easy to use even notoriously low output microphones. The converter section is equally impressive: The AD/DA converters offer a dynamic range of up to 130dB and are clocked using the company's proprietary 64-bit Acoustically Focused Clocking technology. The goal is to create a highly accurate timing foundation with minimal jitter, ultimately resulting in exceptional sound quality. At the same time, the system can be synchronised externally via word clock and, thanks to three word clock outputs, can also serve as a clock distribution hub itself.

Do more with Synergy Core
With its extensive connectivity, the Antelope Audio Discrete 8 Oryx Synergy Core is aimed squarely at studios and producers. Its eight integrated preamps make it particularly well suited to multitrack recording, whether in a rehearsal space or in a live setting. In situations like these, the footswitch input, which controls the talkback and dim functions, is especially useful. Another major advantage is the package of 37 effects, all of which are processed directly on the built-in signal processors – and thus with virtually no latency and no load on the host computer. These Synergy Core effects can be used in monitoring chains, during recording, and throughout the mixing process on up to 16 tracks simultaneously, and range from Vari-Mu compressors to preamp emulations. To handle this workload, the interface employs two dedicated DSPs alongside an FPGA chip. Additional effects can be added to the collection as paid upgrades.

About Antelope Audio
Antelope Audio is a manufacturer of professional audio equipment that was founded by developer Igor Levin, who invented the famous AardSync clock generator with which his then-company Aardvark made waves in the world of audio engineering at the end of the 20th century. In 2005, Igor Levin went – as he himself put it – back to his roots and continued to develop the AardSync concept. The result of this development work was the "Oven Clock", a word clock generator that is kept at a constant temperature of 64.5°C to provide increased stability and improve jitter performance. Virtual patchbay routing
Signal flow within the Antelope Audio Discrete 8 Oryx Synergy Core can be managed flexibly via a virtual patchbay. Any signal source can be routed to any analogue or digital output, while independent monitor mixes can be created for the main monitor output and each of the four headphone outputs. Routing can be configured conveniently from any computer, indeed it can even be managed from multiple computers on the same network. Because routing, level settings, and mixer configurations can all be stored as presets, switching between different workflows is quick and straightforward. One noteworthy addition is the enhanced headphone section. The outputs now feature a Crossfeed function (X-Feed), designed to recreate the listening experience that actual loudspeakers deliver. In addition, there are headphone-linearisation profiles for a range of popular studio headphones, along with a dedicated equaliser for further refinement.
