Classic looks, complex sound

With the Caz series, the Turkish cymbal specialist Zultan has created a collection of extremely inexpensive handcrafted cymbals made of premium B20 bronze. Their sound profile has been carefully tuned to make them ideal for Jazz, as well as other genres that tend towards the mellow. The cymbals are manufactured in Turkey using methods that have remained more or less unchanged for centuries, with a great emphasis on skilled handcraft – the simple, classic look of the cymbals is just as traditional as the workmanship itself. The Caz range includes numerous Crash, Crash/Ride, Ride, Sizzle Ride, and Hi-Hat models; two pre-configured sets are also available.

Quality craftsmanship at a competitive price

Merely mentioning handcrafted cymbals from Turkey is enough to get knowledgeable drummers and percussionists pricking up their ears. However, a look at the prices involved will often have their jaws dropping, too. This is exactly where Zultan's Caz cymbals come in: Rarely has so much musical mojo been available for so little money. Now, some of the premium models from the established brands truly are outstanding – but the Caz cymbals, which are completely hand-lathed and hammered over their entire surface, are extremely competitive contenders. The 21" sizzle ride here brings a full, earthy sound – but also fine treble detail and a surprisingly silvery stick definition, with the subtle sizzle effect of its rivets adding warmth to the sustain.

Jazz in Turkish

Caz is simply the Turkish word for Jazz, and it's clear that these cymbals have been designed with that very purpose in mind. Jazz drummers need light instruments that react to the gentlest touch and deliver a balanced, harmonious sound across all dynamic levels, from soft to loud. Of course, this applies not only to Jazz, but to genres like Blues, Funk, Latin, and Soul, where Caz cymbals can also be played to their strengths. As such, this 21" sizzle ride can be used in a variety of ways, delivering just the right sound for each of the aforementioned genres, and responding well to rods or brushes, too.

The Zultan Caz cymbals may have Jazz in their name, but can be used almost universally and are at home wherever pleasant, balanced cymbals are required – they have a warm sound spectrum without jarring frequencies. This is the case for all kinds of acoustic, unamplified music, which might include unplugged guitar sessions, but also live Salsa gigs or Gospel concerts in churches. Of course, there's nothing to stop Caz cymbals being used with amplified music too, as long as they're played sensitively and with the right tools. The Zultan 21" Caz Sizzle Ride itself is a very versatile plate, enriching the quieter parts of a track beautifully with its gentle, washy sizzle – while still contributing articulation and rhythm like a good ride should.

Great sounding ride!

I'm playing drums (jazz) for more that 35 years. During all those years it was an ongoing mission to find the right sounding cymbals. Through the years I've tried some different brands. I never was very happy with the sound of my acquired Ziljian cymbals so back in the nineties I came across the Mel Lewis Signature series from Istanbul and I've played them since then. Those were very nice sounding cymbals and did the job quite nicely. However, I was still looking for something else; a more thinner cymbal to be precise since the Mel Lewis ones are rather thick.

While doing my search I came across the Zultan brand and especially the Caz Series. I've found out that this production line was thinner than the average cymbals and that was awakening my interest. At first, I was more than a little skeptical about the price since all my other cymbals were much more expensive. So I decided to give it a try and ordered two of the available rides: The 21 Caz sizzle ride and the 20 Caz Ride.

When i placed the 21 Caz Ride on my stand and hit it for the first time i was amazed. What a sound. Good sustain, brilliant, clear with a very nice sizzle effect. Altogether it sounded like one of those old cymbals that jazz drummers so much adore. I was deeply in love with this beauty and from now on it will be part of my setup, even at my upcoming studio date!

Heel mooie klank

Als jarenlange Zildjian K-speler wilde ik dit 'huismerk' van Thomann toch eens uitproberen. De hi-hat bekkens heb ik teruggestuurd; die konden niet op tegen de K's. Maar dit sizzle/ride bekken is werkelijk heel goed, en niet alleen maar 'tegen deze prijs'. Prachtige klank, en de klinknagels zijn eventueel makkelijk te verwijderen. Ik heb een van de twee weggehaald, waardoor de sizzle nèt iets subtieler wordt en het bekken ook als gewoon ride-bekken te gebruiken is. Door het wat dunnere materiaal zit er een mooie crash in het bekken. Ook om te zien een mooi bekken, handgehamerd. Ik speel zelf mainstream jazz en daar is dit bekken qua klank en volume perfect voor.

I LOVE this cymbal. Well made, and that sustained wonderful sizzle, not too much, not too little, done right and the price, a shot across the bow of the big dogs charging 3 times the price of this. I just love it, can't say enough about it.

Awesome price for hand hammered cast cymbals

this one sounds great, it's nice and light and the rivets give it a nice pleasing noisy background sound, great for recording purpose, and of course for jazz and blues, but also for light rock.
