Dozens of vocal effects in one unit
With professional vocal effects ranging from pitch correction and unison to octave, vocoder, and talkbox, the Zoom V6 SP gives singers extensive control over the sound and character of their voice. It also packs features that usually require their own dedicated device: An integrated looper with up to three minutes and thirty seconds of recording time makes it possible to build layered overdub performances, while the formant expression pedal reshapes the tonal character of the voice in real time without affecting pitch. There are 40 preset patches to explore, which can be tailored and stored as complete effect setups across up to 100 memory slots – ideal for recalling different sound configurations quickly. Built-in effects such as reverb and delay round out the package.
Three sections, one voice
The Zoom V6 SP's defining characteristic is its precise musical control over pitch and harmony. Using the central rotary dial, performers can select a specific key directly, allowing pitch correction and generated harmonies to follow the musical context. The Harmony section adds two generated voices to the original signal for three-part harmonies, with higher or lower voices available at the push of a button. Effects such as echo and chorus add further character, while the Beat Box effect compresses and accentuates percussive vocalisations to make them sound more like drum hits. The V6 SP can also operate as a USB audio interface at up to 32-bit/44.1kHz, allowing processed vocals and performances to be captured directly to a computer.
Layer by layer
The Zoom V6 SP suits singers, musicians, and sound designers looking to create and record more adventurous vocal parts for both live and studio use. The formant-shifting expression pedal provides hands-free control over vocal character, while pitch and harmony processing can transform a single performance into anything from subtle reinforcement to layered multi-part arrangements. The integrated looper expands this further, allowing vocal lines, harmonies, and rhythmic elements to be built up layer by layer in real time – ideal for live performances, overdubs, or quick creative sketches. The V6 SP can also run on four AA batteries, making it practical for mobile setups and street performances with a portable speaker, without access to mains power.
About Zoom
Founded in 1983, the Japanese company Zoom manufactures a variety of audio equipment, including a range of portable "handy" recorders as well as multi-effects processors, effects pedals, drum machines, and samplers. Over the past thirty years, the company has built a reputation for producing innovative yet affordable products based on original microchip designs. Since the Zoom-9002 (an ultra-compact multi-effects processor that can be attached to a guitar strap) was introduced in 1990, Zoom has become one of the leaders in digital audio processing.
Voice, Harmony, and Effect
Zoom's V6 SP organises its processing into three dedicated sections – Voice, Harmony, and Effect – with one processor from each section available simultaneously, and complete configurations stored in the memory as required. The Voice section reshapes the source with effects such as Talkbox, Vocoder, or Bass Octave, while Harmony generates the additional voices and provides a dedicated Mix control for balancing them against the original signal. The Effect section adds processing such as adjustable delay, with dedicated dials providing immediate control over the intensity of the Voice and Effect sections. A built-in compressor and enhancer, combining EQ and de-essing, provide further control over the microphone signal from the V6 SP's integrated preamp.
