Mobile multitrack recording
The Zoom H6studio is a compact multitrack recorder capable of capturing up to six tracks in 32-bit float audio, offering a straightforward workflow that is easy to use in a wide range of recording situations. Its 32-bit float recording helps to prevent clipping caused by unexpected level peaks, reducing the need to adjust input gain during recording. Alongside the included XY microphone capsule for stereo recording, it features four XLR combo inputs for connecting microphones and other audio sources with flexibility. A threaded mount on the bottom allows the recorder to be attached to a stand or tripod, making it well suited to podcasts, location recording, and other portable setups. Combined with high-quality preamps and onboard playback, the H6studio is a practical choice for applications ranging from film production to sound design.
Distortion-free stereo sound
The included XY microphone capsule is removable and can be replaced with other compatible capsule models, offering additional flexibility for different recording applications. It is particularly well suited to stereo recordings, delivering a natural spatial image with a convincing sense of depth, while its 123dB dynamic range and ability to handle sound pressure levels (SPL) of up to 140dB make it suitable for demanding recording environments. Dedicated gain controls allow the microphone level to be adjusted with precision, while separate controls below provide quick access to the input levels of the XLR combo inputs. Buttons positioned alongside the controls make it easy to select which channels are active for recording, simplifying track management during a session. At the centre of the recorder, the transport controls provide straightforward playback of recorded material via the built-in speaker.
Full setup integration
For accurate monitoring, the left side of the Zoom H6studio features a 3.5mm headphone output with a dedicated volume control positioned alongside it. The line output allows the recorder's signal to be sent directly to a camera, making it possible to capture synchronised audio during video production. The nearby USB-C connection enables the H6studio to function as an audio interface when connected to a computer, while also allowing files to be transferred from the inserted microSD card. The card slot itself is located on the opposite side, together with the selection dial and Enter button used to navigate the display and adjust settings. These controls provide access to functions such as structure-borne sound isolation across all channels and individual phantom power activation for the four XLR combo inputs when using condenser microphones.
For recording without restrictions
Thanks to features such as voice guidance for settings and audio prompts, the Zoom H6studio offers an accessible recording experience for a wide range of users. In addition to English, German voice guidance can also be added once the language package has been installed. The clear interface makes the workflow intuitive for the user, allowing even those who are new to multitrack recording to adjust their settings quickly and easily. Each recording is automatically tagged with the preset time and date, which makes files simple to organise and locate. Combined with 32-bit float recording, the H6studio maintains high audio quality even at lower levels and provides additional flexibility by allowing recordings affected by excessive input levels to be corrected during post-production.
About Zoom
Founded in 1983, the Japanese company Zoom manufactures a variety of audio equipment, including a range of portable "handy" recorders as well as multi-effects processors, effects pedals, drum machines, and samplers. Over the past thirty years, the company has built a reputation for producing innovative yet affordable products based on original microchip designs. Since the Zoom-9002 (an ultra-compact multi-effects processor that can be attached to a guitar strap) was introduced in 1990, Zoom has become one of the leaders in digital audio processing.
A versatile all-rounder for any situation
Thanks to its flexible design, the Zoom H6studio can be adapted to a wide range of recording scenarios. For podcast production, up to four participants can be recorded simultaneously when using additional microphones connected via the XLR combo inputs. In addition, the line input on the XY capsule also allows audio clips to be captured directly from a smartphone. In film applications, sound engineers can use a connected boom microphone for focused dialogue recording while the XY capsule captures the surrounding ambience, providing valuable material for post-production. The additional XLR combo sockets in turn offer further options for connecting extra sources, such as recording a mixing desk output while the XY capsule captures the atmosphere of a live performance. Thanks to its generous range of input options, the H6studio thus provides a practical solution for a variety of recording tasks without limiting creative possibilities.
