The DC 4000 is actually a full set of drum microphones from the t.bone, comprising three different types of microphone: a BD 25 Beta, four CD 56 Betas, and a pair of EM 81 overhead microphones featuring back-electret capsule technology. What's on offer here is a set with a cohesive and convincing sound that can easily hold its own against microphones from more established brands – and yet for a very reasonable price. Is there anything they can't do?
The dynamic BD‑25 Beta microphone is optimised for bass drum duties, delivering a full and weighty sound, and its 401g build gives it a reassuringly solid feel. The CD‑56 Betas – the set includes a full four of them – take care of toms and snare, where they perform reliably, giving the drum kit an open, punchy tone. For overheads, the set includes two EM 81 microphones, whose condenser design provides a natural and spacious image of the kit as a whole. The supplied adapters also make it easy to mount all the mics on stands with either 3/8" or 5/8" threads.
