A mobile studio for vocal recordings

The SC 425 USB is a complete and easy-to-use package aimed at budding audio engineers, home-studio enthusiasts, and podcasters alike. A simple USB connection and your recording voice are all you will require to get started! It also features a useful headphone output for zero-latency monitoring. The SC 425 has an even more affordable little brother, the SC 420 USB. Unlike the latter, however, the 425 is fitted with two dedicated controls for gain and output volume as well as a red LED to indicate its operating status. A foam pop filter is also included to guard against plosives, as are a suspended shock mount (to minimise vibrations and handling noises) and a round table stand. The whole package is very attractively priced, providing a professional-grade audio recording solution for the many.

Proximity effect for an enhanced sound

Large-diaphragm microphones such as the SC 425 USB are valued for their high sensitivity and accurate rendition. In addition, their proximity effect is more pronounced than that of small-capsule mics – in other words, the closer you are to the microphone when speaking or singing, the warmer your voice will become. The same effect will apply to other sound sources such as guitars and pianos. Large-diaphragm microphones are extremely versatile, and every studio should have at least one. Podcasters will also appreciate the richness and “radiophonic” quality of their sound.

Plug & play

The SC 425 USB eliminates the need for an audio interface, preamp, and all associated cables – which is ideal if you’re impatient to get started, or on the road a lot. The mic's dedicated potentiometers allow you to subtly adjust the input gain and the headphone output volume. Thanks to its plug & play functionality, the microphone works out of the box with both Windows and Mac operating systems without needing to install any drivers. The integrated headphone output allows you to directly monitor the input signal without any latency. The SC 425 USB is primarily aimed at podcasters and singers who want to record in a home-studio environment, which is why the package includes a pop filter, a table stand, and a shock mount.

Room and ambient noises are thus kept to a minimum, even if the home studio does not have the proper acoustic treatment.

Ik zocht een microfoon met duidelijk en warm opnamegeluid.
Makkelijk in elkaar te zetten ( microfoon op standaard + filter).
Heel veel plezier hiervan en de zware voet zorgt voor stabiel neerzetten.

Perfect microphone.

The microphone spec. was ideal for my remote group jam sessions on Skype and Zoom. The microphone on my laptop just couldn't cope with the music side of things. The SC 425 comes in a hard case with pre-formed foam padding, so great for safe transporting. It takes just a few minutes to put together, the 2m cable plugs into the computer and requires no driver installation. It's so simple. Ordering was very straight forward, and it was shipped within a day. Text messages kept me informed of the delivery progress, as has happened with all Thomann products that I have ordered in the past. Very efficient and friendly staff. Thanks for the great service.

Awesome value for money

Performs awesomely, great condenser "hears" everything, haven't noticed any voice color.
Using it with very strong noise reduction in a completely untreated room, mainly for voice comms and beatboxing.

The accessories it comes with complete it, and I don't need anything else for it, at all, it's all there and I can't believe I only paid this much for a complete set of this quality. Sturdy everything on a heavy base.

The only two complaints for me are:
- the permanent blue LED on the membrane, but once I installed the supplied windshield it's largely not visible anymore
- the mute button is mechanical, so vibrations from pressing it are present in the audio stream, but it's not a big deal since I use software mute, and I sample and cut my beatbox.
