These monitor wedges are (like anything from the Achat series) an absurd value for money!
The coaxial speaker makes for a very sturdy and compact cabinet, while having a very usable dispersion of 60x60 degrees. This makes it not too annoying for other musicians on stage, while the musician in front of them is getting a good coverage. They sound surprisingly well behaved for the price, only minor EQ adjustments are needed to get them screaming loud before feedback! Just keep in mind that the 12” woofer doesn’t really like anything below 100 Hz, and it can get to a clipping point when driven hard enough. Get an active sub underneath if you need more sub (or get the 15” version).
The built in DSP is easy enough to use and has a few basic options, like a HPF (when used with a subwoofer), basic EQ and a digital gain. The limiter of these speakers is subtle enough that you can drive them pretty hard without it sounding like some 90’s overcompressed radio station.
The powercon connectors on these speakers make for a quick and reliable connection, while leaving the flexibility to easily connect 2 speakers together.
The 36 mm speaker flange on the side makes them more than usable as a powered speaker for presentation, DJ/background music or even as FOH PA for a small gig. Beware that putting them on a stand exposed the connectors to the elements, even a small drizzle can quickly become an issue as rain can collect and infiltrate the speaker and amp this way.
As with any of the Achat series, the paint is quite thin and easily damaged. Nothing to worry about and it’s easily fixed by just touching it up with some warnex, but it’s something to take into consideration when buying them.
All in all an absolute steal for anyone searching for good sounding, well capable monitor wedges!
