A sturdy little cube

A compact active full-range loudspeaker, every the box pro Achat 104 offers its users excellent value for money. With its robust wooden housing finished in black structured paint, the 104 A is an immensely sturdy little cube, an impression only reinforced by the sturdy metal grille on the front. Weighing in at only 2.5kg, and measuring 144 x 146 x 214mm, it's appealingly compact, too. An L-bracket for mounting it on walls, ceilings, and stands is included as standard – the 104 A has mounting points on the side and underside so it can be flown vertically or horizontally. For mobile use, there is also an attachment for mounting it on a mic stand (sold separately). What is more, this tidy little device was actually designed right here in Germany.

Broad frequency range, no sub-bass

Each the box pro Achat 104A is equipped with a 4" woofer and a 1" fabric dome tweeter. Of course, no would expect enormous bass depth with such small components, but with a frequency range of 100Hz–20kHz and a maximum sound pressure of 109dB, the speaker is ideal for spoken word applications or unobtrusive background music. The speaker is equipped with a final stage that provides power handling of 50W RMS, and a pair of XLR sockets for input and output. A switch above the volume control can be used to activate standby mode: To save energy, the 104 A will automatically switch to standby after 60 minutes without an input signal. It automatically returns to normal operation when the signal resumes, which is an immensely useful feature if the speaker has to be left switched on because it's mounted on a wall or ceiling.

Tiny, flexible, and practical

Thanks to the variety of mounting options, one or more the box pro Achat 104 A speakers are ideal for permanent use in restaurants, shops, medical practices and the like, but they're also at home in a living room or kitchen. The 104 A performs well in mobile applications, too. As a small full-range loudspeaker without a subwoofer, a single the box pro Achat 104 is eminently suitable for spoken word applications such as readings or poetry slams, as well as for background sound reinforcement where bass is less relevant. If more bass is required, additional subwoofers are necessary; suitable models here include Thomann's the box pro Achat Sub A and the box pro Achat 112 Sub A. Combined with subwoofers like these, the 104 A can even handle sound reinforcement for very small live events, or provide background music in shops and cafés.
