Battery-powered active speaker

The MBA1 from the box pro is a mobile, battery-powered active speaker for a wide range of applications. Its built-in lithium-ion battery with a 3,600mAh capacity provides enough power for roughly four hours of operation and takes just two-and-a-half hours to charge. Four LEDs on the rear panel indicate the current charge level. The MBA1’s black polymer housing contains a two-way speaker system which includes an eight-inch woofer and a one-each tweeter, both driven by a 120W (RMS) amplifier. All of the necessary connections and controls are also conveniently located on the back of the speaker.

Built-in three-channel mixer

In addition to the power inlet for mains operation and battery charging, the MBA1 also features a comprehensively equipped three-channel mixer. The first two channels are equipped with mic/line sockets that allow both XLR and 6.35mm (1/4”) TRS connectors to be used for input signals. They are switchable between line and mic levels and have separate volume, treble, and bass controls. The level of reverb can also be adjusted on each channel via its dedicated knob. The third channel is stereo and, in addition to its RCA and mini-jack connections, also enables wireless connection via Bluetooth. The MBA1 also has a USB port that can be used, for example, for powering mobile phones or other devices used to play back music.

Sonic versatility

Extensive connection and control options are just one of this speaker’s many great features. Its broad frequency response, spanning 50Hz to 20kHz, is also noteworthy and perfectly suited to many different situations. Three built-in presets – Music, Vocal, and Guitar – are available for further fine-tuning of the sound and allow the speaker's characteristics to be effortlessly adapted to a number of given applications without any prior knowledge of sound engineering. Should more than one speaker be required at an event, the XLR output on the rear panel can be used to route the mix of all the input channels to additional speakers.

the box pro mba1 of bose s1pro

Heel lang getwijfeld maar dan toch een Thomann "The Box mba1" besteld en het resultaat is verbluffend, voor de helft van de Bose prijs krijg je een gear dat minstens even goed presteert, heel groot pluspunt is dat de MBA1 een mastervolumeknop heeft en veel steviger basklanken door de 8 inch speaker. De geluidsspreiding kan iets minder zijn dan de Bose S1 maar is alleszinds niet het prijsverschil waard. Ik heb dadelijk een tweede besteld.

Stereo pairing werkt niet

Voordat ik mijn tweede MBA pro kocht gebeld met de technische dienst van Thomman. Gevraagd of twee speakers in bluetooth stereo werken. Het antwoord was ja, maar helaas werkt dit niet.

1 speaker klinkt goed voor deze compacte speaker. Maar twee speakers werken niet in stereo met bluetooth zoals aangegeven in de beschrijving Bij het pairen wordt er altijd een gemute.

Met Thomman gebeld en ze zeggen nu dat het bij hun ook niet werkt en ze dit verder gaan testen.

Mijn beiden speakers gaan terug naar Thomman.

Na onderzoek en lezen van de reviews bestelde ik meteen twee van deze actieve monitoren. Helaas heb ik ze ook weer teruggestuurd (gelukkig kan dat binnen 30 dagen met geld terug garantie). Reden is de klank: het vraagt nogal wat afstelling om gestreamde (Bluetooth) audio enigszins acceptabel te laten klinken. Bijvoorbeeld in vergelijking met mijn JBL Extreme boombox , die veel beter klinkt zonder iets aan de EQ te doen. En wat ook een slecht teken is: zonder signaal hebben de boxen een behoorlijk irritante 'self-noise' / gesis. Ook qua volume ben ik niet onder de indruk. De bevestiging van mijn bezwaren kwam toen ik als vervanging een Mackie Thump GO probeerde: meteen een uitstekend geluid én volume. Weliswaar voor wat meer geld, maar de Mackie voelt toch als 'value for money'. Misschien is de MBA1 dat ook, maar uiteindelijk voor mij te weinig kwaliteit.
