Say Aloha to Koa

Hawaiian koa is a prized tonewood among guitarists, valued for both its striking grain and nuanced tonal character. The Taylor 214ce-K features the brand's popular Grand Auditorium body shape and combines a layered koa back and sides with a solid torrefied spruce top – enhancing projection, warmth, and clarity. A lightweight Venetian cutaway provides easy access to higher frets, while Taylor's renowned Expression System 2 captures the guitar’s natural acoustics for live use. Built in Taylor's Mexican facility, the 214ce-K offers this legendary manufacturer's renowned build quality at a more accessible price point.

Taylor 214ce Koa

A classic all-rounder

Part of the 200 Series, the Grand Auditorium is one of Taylor’s most popular and versatile body shapes, combining the tonal richness of a dreadnought with the focus and clarity of a concert-sized instrument. It handles fingerstyle, strumming, and flatpicking with equal finesse. The solid spruce top – torrefied for added warmth and maturity – works in tandem with Taylor’s proprietary C-Class bracing to deliver an open, balanced tone with improved sustain and low-end depth. The fingerboard and bridge are crafted from ebony, while the neck features responsibly sourced Neo-Tropical mahogany. Discreet bass, treble, and volume controls are integrated into the upper bout, maintaining the guitar’s sleek, stage-ready aesthetic.

American quality, made in Mexico

The Taylor 214ce-K is designed for musical flexibility and is often described as the Swiss Army Knife of acoustic guitars. Whether strumming folk progressions, picking out ballads, or fronting a band, it delivers clear articulation and natural dynamics across all genres. The Expression System 2 pickup delivers feedback-resistant sound on stage, while its comfortable neck profile makes it especially suitable for players transitioning from electric guitar. Built in Mexico, this model differs from US-made Taylors primarily in price, offering a more affordable route into the Taylor sound without compromising on build or tone. A structured gig bag is also included, making the Taylor 214ce-K a practical companion for rehearsals, travel, and regular practice.

About Taylor Guitars

Taylor Guitars was co-founded by Bob Taylor in California in 1974 and from the outset specialised in the construction of high-quality acoustic guitars. By focusing on state-of-the-art manufacturing methods and very high standards of quality, Taylor Guitars has made it into the top echelon of fine guitar makers. Names such as Taylor Swift, Leo Kottke, Prince, David Gilmour, and former US President Bill Clinton are a testament to the popularity of the instruments, which are also reputed for their playability. The creation of a second workshop in Mexico has meant that Taylor guitars are also in the mid-priced segment.

Rock'n'roll or romance

Thanks to its onboard pickup system, the Taylor 214ce-K performs just as confidently on stage as it does in more intimate settings. Whether playing delicate folk passages or energetic rock arrangements, it delivers a clear, articulate sound with an impressive dynamic response. The use of layered koa makes this aesthetic more accessible without compromising on sound, while the solid spruce top and relatively lightweight construction offer a vibrant and open acoustic voice when unplugged – equally suited to fingerpicking techniques or light strumming.

Best guitar at a great price
AndreiMusic 21.01.2020
I have this guitar since 2017 and it's been a great purchase. Thomann was an outstanding experience for me, given the fact it was my first online purchase for a musical instrument.

Clarity: Very crisp sounding, and it's even better when plugged in

Pro: Solid top, Koa back, nice sound, cool look, Taylor quality
Cons: I wish the back was solid koa, one of the Tuners misses the rubber. maybe a fault in service but it can be fixed. These are not really cons but i had to write something

If you want to get in Taylor world at not so expensive price, I totally recommend this guitar.

Overall good, but not for jazz and fingerpicking
Vadim N. 19.10.2022
I play mostly jazz, accompaniment and some fingerpicking. So I wanted something mellow and convenient to play. The sound of this Taylor is not bad, and guitar feels not bad in hands, but it's just not for me, I think.
Let me explain some points, pros and cons...

- It has pretty straight neck, but I had to adjust strings height, and even in the lowest position it was too high for me
- Neck is extremely narrow, not for solo stuff and fingerpicking, except you have very small fingers maybe.
- Strings have standard gauge, I guess, but they seem too heavy for me, definitely not for fingerpicking or solo stuff.
- Quality of manufacturing is not good, but you never know in advance which pattern of koa and spruce you'll get. In my case, the top had strange texture.
- The guitar isn't loud enough, for solo stuff and fingerpicking at least.
- Plugged into my Boss Acoustic Singer it had some noise.

My final words - If you're looking for a decent quality guitar for simple loud strumming and singing, this may be a good option. If you (like myself) need something for soloing, blues, jazz, more advanced stuff, think twice, and better yet, try it before you buy.

Good luck!

An Excellent entry level Taylor
Anoniem 26.03.2017
1. The guitar came well packaged and in one piece.
2. The gig rig is actually really good, thick and well made. I was really impressed.
3. The Koa wood is really unique and makes the guitar look awesome.
4. The neck feels great, it's rather thin and the setup is lowish, although i might setup it lower soon.
5. Build quality is pretty good, even though this is a mexican guitar, i wasn't able to find any flaw. It's beautifully made.
6. The guitar stays in tune much better than my other guitars.
7. It sounds great! I was really impressed with the immense sound.
8. The pickups are ok, they sound just ok, You should use a microphone if you want to record it.

Overall, this is a great purchase, it looks, feels and plays just great.

Very good model
Miguel Almeida 06.03.2024
Beautiful Koa wood and finishes, it honours Taylor's reputation and sound. Of course you can feel the difference from a all-solid wood Taylor model especially lacking a bit of low ends. But a great model
