The complete mobile studio
The Shure MV88+ is a stereo condenser microphone built for smartphones. With the accessories in the Video Kit here, it can be mounted to almost any phone with the adjustable clip, while the Manfrotto Pixi Mini tripod holds the mic and phone as one, for stationary or handheld shooting. Both Lightning and USB-C cables are in the box, covering older iPhones, USB-C iPads, and Android phones, as well as Mac and Windows computers. The mic's M/S capsule pairs matched cardioid and bi-directional 10mm cartridges for a phase-accurate stereo image, with the width adjustable in Shure's MOTIV app. Where the recently updated MV88 USB-C plugs straight into a USB-C device, the MV88+ Video Kit's cabled connection accommodates phones in chunky protective cases that wouldn't sit flush against a direct-mount mic.
Specs and build
The matched condenser cartridges on the Shure MV88+ cover a 20Hz–20kHz frequency range at up to 24-bit/48kHz, with a 120dB max SPL and 0–36dB adjustable gain handling everything from delicate acoustic instruments to loud live bands. The all-metal housing carries a built-in headphone output with monitor mix control, balancing live input against playback on the fly when recording to a phone or computer without a separate interface. A five-band EQ, adjustable compressor, and limiter are configurable in the MOTIV app and stored on the microphone for consistent recall across sessions. At 79g and 77mm long without the windscreen (81.5g and 93mm long with), the MV88+ travels easily and stows in a jacket pocket, the corner of a camera bag, or the roll-up case the Video Kit comes with.
A working studio mic
The MV88+ is aimed at musicians, film-makers, and content creators for whom making the recording matters just as much as editing it: The headphone output, mic-stand mounting, and stored DSP settings make this a working studio mic rather than a phone accessory. The mid-side architecture folds cleanly to mono, so a single recording serves stereo music capture and speech work without compromise on either side. The swivel clip mounts on any standard stand independently of the phone, so the mic doubles as a desk-stand or boom-mounted studio mic when the kit isn't in video mode. For video work, the Pixi Mini tripod handles both stationary shooting and run-and-gun handheld grip work where phone and mic move together. The M/S stereo image can be narrowed or widened in MOTIV without moving the mic, effectively zooming the stereo image in or out to match the camera's field of view.
About Shure
The American company Shure began developing microphones during the early 1930s and is one of the pioneers of the audio engineering sector. Models such as the 55 Unidyne – known to many as the "Elvis microphone" – and the SM57 and SM58 which appeared in the mid-1960s are still ubiquitous in live sound production today. They enjoy cult status among musicians and technicians alike. In the 1990s, Shure introduced the first wireless microphones and in-ear monitoring systems and became a market leader in this field. In addition to microphones, Shure offers a wide range of earphones and headphones for studio and live use, as well as various accessories.
One mic, four patterns
Each polar pattern adapts the MV88+ to a different scenario – without any need to adjust the hardware. Mono cardioid focuses on a single source directly in front of the capsule, suiting solo vocal or instrument recording, vlogging, and voiceover work. Mono bi-directional opens both sides for a two-way interview, capturing voices on either side of the mic evenly without any repositioning. Adjustable stereo captures a wide, natural soundstage for music, ambience, or live performance recording, with width variable from an intimate 60° to a full 135°. Raw mid-side records both capsules simultaneously as separate channels, leaving maximum flexibility for stereo-image adjustment in post-production. The clamp and tripod accommodate both landscape and portrait shooting, supporting front‑facing camera setups for flexible filming as well as selfie mode for live streaming straight from a smartphone.
In the spotlight
Shure MOTIV ecosystem
The MOTIV Video and MOTIV Audio apps form the control hub for Shure's MOTIV and MoveMic microphone ecosystem, which includes the MV88 USB-C, MV88+, and the wireless MoveMic 88+. The apps offer users direct access to polar pattern selection, DSP, and recording parameters on iOS and Android. Four polar patterns cover the most common capture scenarios: adjustable stereo (60° to 135°) for music and ambience, mono cardioid for focused speech, mono bi-directional for two-way interviews, and raw mid-side for post-production flexibility. Five customisable presets cover common starting points, with the full DSP toolkit available underneath for finer adjustments. The wired MV88 models connect as standard USB audio devices, so any recording app sees them; MOTIV layers control on top rather than gating basic functionality. The MoveMic 88+ extends the family wirelessly: It records direct-to-phone over Bluetooth, or routes through the receiver to cameras and third-party apps for uncompressed 24-bit quality.
