The Sequential Prophet-6 picks up where the illustrious Prophet-5 left off – offering the same vintage character as its predecessor while adding modern, fully-programmable functionalities and rock-solid reliability. This analogue powerhouse includes all the hallmarks of a classic subtractive synth, such as a fully analogue signal path with six voices, each equipped with two voltage-controlled oscillators, a discrete low-pass filter, and a new resonant high-pass filter, followed by a velocity-sensitive 49-key keyboard with aftertouch and a wonderfully intuitive user interface. A triangle sub-oscillator, white noise generator, and genuine VCO drift ('Slop' control) further expand its feature set.

Pure subtractive synthesis

The Sequential Prophet-6 expands on the concept of the iconic Prophet-5, increasing the polyphony to six voices. Each voice features two discrete voltage-controlled oscillators with continuously variable waveforms, oscillator sync, noise, and a triangle-wave sub-oscillator. Sound shaping is handled by a 24dB/oct low-pass filter inspired by the Prophet-5 Rev 2 SSM design, now paired with a resonant 12dB/oct high-pass filter for added flexibility. Both filters offer velocity-sensitive modulation and bipolar envelope control. Additional features include mixer-level control, Poly-Mod routing, and a digital LFO with six waveforms. Analogue distortion and dual 24-bit digital effects (delay, chorus, phaser, reverb) are included via a bypassable sidechain, preserving an all-analogue signal path if desired. Despite this wealth of features, sound creation remains intuitive and hands-on—with no menus required.

From deep basses and punchy leads to shimmering pads and classic sequences, the Sequential Prophet-6 covers the full breadth of subtractive synthesis. Its unmistakably warm and rich character is perfect for electronic genres, yet versatile enough to sit comfortably in rock, pop, and cinematic contexts. Its intuitive front panel offers immediate hands-on access to all parameters, including chord memory, unison stacking with detune, and stereo panning of individual voices, with onboard storage supporting 1000 programs (500 user-editable). Designed for expressive performance and detailed composition, the Sequential Prophet-6 also features a five-mode arpeggiator and a 64-step polyphonic sequencer – with full MIDI implementation for DAW environments and live rigs.

About Sequential

Dave Smith, founder of Sequential Circuits (1974-1987), is a major pioneer in the world of synthesizers. His Prophet-5 was the world's first polyphonic synthesiser to enable the storage of parameters. It was followed by innovations such as the Prophet T8, Prophet VS and samplers. Smith was also a major initiator of the MIDI standard and was also deeply involved in the development of the first virtual synthesizers. In 2002, he founded Dave Smith Instruments and has since been one of the most successful suppliers of analog and hybrid hardware synthesizers. Since 2018, the company has been operating under the name Sequential once more.

Analogue tone, precise control

The Sequential Prophet-6 offers a sophisticated yet immediate workflow. Its intuitive front panel puts every function within easy reach, allowing spontaneous modulation and real-time expression in both live and studio contexts. Connectivity includes stereo/mono line outputs, headphone jack, four pedal inputs, and full MIDI implementation via USB and traditional DIN ports, with an internal universal PSU for worldwide use. The control panel is inspired by the original Prophet-5, and provides access to all parameters via 37 knobs, 9 stepped encoders, and over 50 buttons, several of which are backlit. Dedicated functions such as Live Panel, Compare, and Basic Program make sound design even more immediate. Compact yet roadworthy, the Prophet-6 balances portability with flagship-level sound and control, creating a seamless bridge between analogue tradition and modern workflow.

When it was released in 1978, the Prophet-5 was the world’s first fully programmable polyphonic synthesizer, and its punchy analogue sound and intuitive interface quickly made it a legend, with over 6,000 units produced by 1984. The Sequential Prophet-6, launched in 2015, preserves that heritage by specifically echoing the Rev2 model with its sought-after SSM2040 filters. Designed by Dave Smith as a modernised tribute rather than a direct clone, it retains the essential character and workflow of the Prophet-5 while adding integrated effects, expanded connectivity, and a more compact format. The result is an instrument that is both faithful to its inspiration and inspiring in its own right, meeting today’s demands without compromising its analogue DNA.

Love at first sight!
Ensnares you in a romantic and nostalgic atmosphere!
The looks are stunning! The materials are great quality and the feel is divine! In terms of design it is a piece of beauty! Although the wooden finish is not as rich as it looks in the pictures it's still awesome and elegant.
You can use it professionally, for studio recording and for live concerts! The audio quality is phenomenal and the factory presets are fantastic. Indulge yourself in an incredible experience of creating your own unique sounds, it is a beast of creativity!
Every time I play it I feel like the past, the present and the future are being seamlessly fused together!

An unbeatable all-round synthesizer that has one foot in the alluring sound of the past, and one foot in the reliable and economic present.

Not quite as 'alive' and exciting as an original Prophet 5, but n'or does it claim to be. The VCO's sound great, if a little precise, much preferable to the DCOs on the Prophet 8 etc. The drift function really brings some vintage wonkiness to the synth, in an organic and pleasing way.

Limited in some regards, particularly in terms of modulation, but I do not see this as a deficit, rather a strength in getting beautiful big classic synth sounds.

Great sequencer, arp, and FX section. I particularly like the analogue distortion for adding grit, and texture.

Fantastic build quality, as expected. Definitely one that will be in the studio for a very long time. Scratches the vintage itch without the pains of servicing and problems.

Instant love with this machine!

1.Great Sound that sits well in the mix.I replaced older tracks made with my rev2 with similar sounding presets to see the differences between the two synths and i was blown away how much better and fuller is the raw sound.
2.Great build quality.Nicer feeling knobs sturdier.and overall a great piece of kit to get you inspired in the studio.

Fantastic synth!

I have been looking for ages for a decent polysynth.
I narrowed it down to the Dave Smith OB6 or Prophet 6. Difficult choice..similar in many ways but tonally different to each other. After much debate, I went for the smooth, creamy darker sound of the Prophet. Love it!!!
Build quality is great, sound quality is truly magical.
It really has something special in its DNA.Well done Dave.
Now to start saving for a OB6...
