The Sennheiser e835 S is a cardioid dynamic microphone for vocals and speech that delivers a sound which is assertive, present, and clearly defined in the high frequencies. Even when singers spontaneously change the pick-up angle and move further away from the capsule, the e835 S delivers consistent transmission quality, thus ensuring a wide sweet spot and making handling very straightforward. In contrast to the regular e835, the S model has an on/off switch, and its very robust design also reliably protects the microphone from damage. These features, combined with its attractive pricing, make the Sennheiser e835 S a superb entry-level microphone. A matching carrying pouch and microphone clamp (MZQ 800) are also included.

Assertive but not aggressive

Sennheiser's specs have the transmission range of the e835 S covering 40Hz to 16kHz. After only a quick look at the transmission range given in the technical data, experienced eyes will note that there is a boost between 3kHz and 10kHz, as well as a slight dip at 7kHz. This ensures a present, assertive sound while delivering a high level of speech intelligibility, with a notable suppression of harsh, aggressive sibilants. At 2.7 mV/Pa, the very high free-field idle transmission ratio – also known simply as sensitivity – is higher than is typically the case for dynamic microphones, helping the e835 S achieve a comparatively powerful output.

Effortlessly impressive

The Sennheiser e835 S is an excellent choice for anyone interested in a solid alternative to that well-known American microphone with a 58 in its name, offering excellent sound with a level of speech intelligibility and assertiveness that is almost unmatched in this price category. The e835 S is, ultimately, a fairly rudimentary dynamic microphone – this is the reason for its low price, in that it does without a lot of potentially unnecessary technical gimmicks. However, there is one small detail that the engineers at Sennheiser have come up with: The capsule is elastically mounted, making it less sensitive to handling noise.

About Sennheiser

In June 1945, Prof. Fritz Sennheiser founded the Wennebostel Laboratory, which initially produced measuring equipment. Commissioned by Siemens in 1945, the young company developed the MD-1 microphone, which was launched in 1946. After the development of further microphones, the company was renamed Sennheiser Electronic in 1958. Two years later, Sennheiser introduced the MD 421 dynamic microphone, which is still in production today and still held in high esteem by many sound engineers. Further groundbreaking developments, such as the HD 414 headphones and the classic MD 441 microphone, hugely enhanced the company's international reputation, eventually making Sennheiser one of the leading manufacturers of microphone and headphone systems in the world.

Live and in the studio

The Sennheiser e835 S is perfectly tailored to the human voice in all its nuances, and as such it excels at capturing both vocals and speech. Be it live, in the rehearsal room, or in the home studio: The bold, forward sound and high level of speech intelligibility guarantee a top-quality acoustic result. In addition, the robust metal housing and the wire mesh grille reliably protect the mic from mechanical influences, so that hard-rocking live shows or clumsy studio techs aren't a problem. The on/off switch ensures that the microphone can be instantaneously muted if there is any risk of feedback.

Zeer goede micro

Just anothe amateur from Belgium 18.01.2021

Heb een kleine collectie Sennheiser microfoons: 4x e-815S (heel oud :), 2x e-825S. Heb veel goeds gelezen over de e-835, dus waarom eens niet proberen? 2 besteld en ja hoor, ze klinken beter. Niet zo heel veel verschil met mijn 825's (maar wel hoorbaar) maar duidelijk tegenover mijn oude 815-tjes. Worden voornamelijk ingezet voor live-PA toepassingen (nu ja, tegenwoordig niet natuurlijk wegens de lockdown). Het feit dat ze extreem ongevoelig zijn voor feedback speelt hierin zeker mee natuurlijk (slechte ervaringen gehad met gast-zangers hun SM58).

Kortom: goede klank, built like a tank zoals alle Sennheisers, en goedkoop (ook belangrijk als je ermee on the road gaat).

Heb er nu dus 8 :) 2x e-835S, 2x E-825S (goede tweede) en 4x e-e-815S (goed als back-up of voor minder kritische toepassingen, zijn intussen meer dan 20 jaar oud). Eigenlijk heb ik er 9: nog een e-865S condenserke bij laten leveren maar die moet ik nog testen.

Waarom de versie met schakelaartje zul je misschien vragen? Ik vind dit erg handig, je kan gewoon de mixer laten staan as-is na de soundcheck, en voordat de show begint zet ik ze gewoon allemaal aan. Ieder zijn ding zeker?

Als je op zoek bent naar een goedkope, stevige, uitstekend klinkende micro met weinig feedback: kopen!

Had m'n twijfels voor deze prijs maar dit is 'n echte topper.
Hoog en laag komen goed en duidelijk door.
De aan- en uitschakelaar maakt 't een plezierige microfoon in gebruik.
Echt een aanrader !!

Goede kwaliteit

Prima microfoon. Heb deze aangeschaft omdat je op de microfoon een aan/uit schakelaar tot je beschikking hebt. Hij is gevoelig genoeg om de dynamiek van je stem goed weer te geven en ongevoelig genoeg om niet meteen alle omgevingsgeluiden op te pikken. Perfect voor in een oefenruimte.

Past perfect bij de zangstem

In ons muzikale duo heeft de zangeres een tijd gewerkt met de Shure sm58. Na een proeft met de Sennheiser E825 S besloten de E835 te bestellend. De E835 heeft een gevoeligheid van 2.7 mV/Pa bij 1 kHz tegenover 1.5 mV/Pa bij 1 kHz van de E825 en dat is ook het verschil met de Shure (1.88 mV/Pa bij 1 kHz). De wat zachtere stem is met deze meer gevoelige microfoon het beste gediend. Mooi midden ook en goede brede balans laag t/m hoog.
