A clarinet for the discerning player

The new Schreiber D-41 Bb clarinet enters the market as an instrument designed to exceed even the most demanding expectations of musicians, delivering outstanding performance, and like all of Schreiber's high-quality models, this generation 2.0 clarinet represents a significant leap forward, featuring a range of innovations that go beyond mere cosmetic updates to include genuine functional improvements. The tone hole layout, for instance, has been refined to reduce wind resistance and enhance intonation balance, while the repositioning of certain keys ensures a better alignment between pads and keys. Additionally, the newly crafted bell shape contributes to the improved sound, greater projection, and enhanced carrying power, with the overall design of the D-41 focused on elevating sound production to new heights.

Schreiber D-41 Bb-Clarinet - NEW

Deliberately conservative

The Schreiber D-41 Bb clarinet features a German fingering system and an expanded mechanism that includes a twelfth-key connection on the upper joint, along with a double C-key, an F-lever, and a mechanism for a natural high-E on the lower joint, allowing for additional fingering combinations. Equipped with 22 keys and six rings, the instrument also features an adjustable thumb rest that can be positioned to suit individual preferences, ensuring comfortable playability. Complementing its ergonomic design is the excellent surface treatment, which enhances both appearance and durability. The set includes not only the instrument itself but also two clarinet barrels measuring 52 and 54mm, a mouthpiece, ligature, key, and a convenient care set, all housed in a protective case with a form-fitting inlet and backpack straps for easy transport.

About W. Schreiber

W. Schreiber clarinets, bassoons, contrabassoons, and accessories are all proudly 100% Made in Germany. The brand is considered a market and quality leader, especially for student and conservatory instruments, while its professional models meet the highest standards of craftsmanship. With a history spanning over 75 years, W. Schreiber is a true heritage brand in woodwind manufacturing. Since 2010, the company has been part of the French Buffet Crampon Group, which boasts its own extensive legacy in instrument making. Schreiber clarinets are particularly notable for their focus on the German fingering system, while their bassoons offer musicians exceptional playability, tonal quality, and perfect intonation.

German system versus Böhm system

The difference between the Boehm and German systems is easily identifiable in the key system, with the German system featuring two broad, butterfly-shaped levers, each equipped with a roller, while clarinets with the Böhm system have four or sometimes five scaled keys in the same location. The keys on Boehm-system clarinets are closer to each other, making them generally easier to play, while instruments with the German fingering system produce a softer, more delicate sound with a fuller tone. The German system is more common in German-speaking countries and is often preferred by clarinet teachers, as they are typically more familiar with this fingering, and for those aspiring to become professional musicians or clarinetists in Germany, the German system is a practical and sensible choice.
