Keeping grooves and loops spontaneous

The Mooer Groove Loop GL100 is a very successful combination of a stereo looper and a drum machine in a compact stompbox format. Both functions can be used independently or at the same time, making the pedal equally suitable for practising, jamming, or capturing songwriting ideas. Musicians can record their riffs on one of the 100 memory slots, with a total of 300 minutes' recording time. Alongside that, there are more than 200 drum grooves covering eleven different styles, ranging from simple rhythm accompaniment to complete jam tracks. Features such as Auto Rec and DrumMatch help avoid timing issues when layering loops. The package is rounded off by a touchscreen display, stereo inputs and outputs, a headphone connection, and USB-C for audio imports, exports, and firmware updates. Power is supplied via the 9V power supply that is included in the package.

Let's loop

Despite the extensive feature set, the Mooer GL100 is incredibly easy to use. The two footswitches handle the traditional looper duties such as recording, overdubbing, and stopping playback, while many other functions are accessed directly via the touchscreen. That means musicians can get up and running quickly without having to navigate complicated menus. The interaction between the drum machine and looper is particularly effective: Once a guitarist has laid down an idea, the drum grooves can be set to start automatically, with the DrumMatch function keeping everything in sync with the recorded loops. The Auto Rec function is also very useful, automatically starting recording as soon as the music begins. Tap Tempo makes it easy to adjust timing on the fly, while the stereo inputs and outputs provide plenty of flexibility for stereo setups.

An entire creative hub in one pedal

The Mooer GL100 is particularly well suited to musicians who don't want to start up their computer, DAW, or full recording setup every time they want to practise or jam. Guitarists and bassists who regularly workshop their ideas will find it a compact tool with a surprising amount of capability. The combination of looper and drum machine makes it easy to lay down a solid musical framework without any additional equipment. The GL100 also includes a number of practical functions for musicians who rehearse alone, be that to work on timing or develop their own song ideas. Anyone primarily looking for a basic one-button looper may need a little time to get a handle on the expanded functionality - as such, though, the GL100 offers considerably more possibilities and feels much more like a compact looping workstation than a simple play-along device.

About Mooer

Mooer is based in the Chinese city of Shenzhen and has been making products for guitarists since 2010, which include compact single pedals through to multi-effects units and compact amplifiers. The company initially produced a range of mini pedals before making perhaps its most significant breakthrough in 2016 with the sophisticated Ocean Machine delay pedal, which was designed in collaboration with Devin Townsend. Mooer's product range now also includes solutions that feature amp modelling, IR-based speaker simulation, and matching equalisers, and the company's focus remains firmly on the use of digital technology.

Compact, practical, and musical

In day-to-day use, the Mooer GL100 quickly demonstrates just how useful the combination of looper and drum machine can be. Riffs, chord progressions, and spontaneous ideas can be captured immediately and expanded with additional layers whenever needed. Combined with the drum grooves, the result feels much more engaging than practising to a simple metronome. When jamming alone, it doesn't take long before the experience begins to resemble playing with a real band. And thanks to the stereo connections, the pedal can be integrated into almost any setup, while the headphone output makes late-night sessions possible without disturbing the rest of the household. Anyone looking for additional connectivity – Bluetooth audio, MIDI, or just an extra XLR input – will find an even more comprehensive alternative in the larger GL200.

Great looper for solo guitar
Dave C NL 27.01.2025
I'm a jazz improviser, and I'm using this looper along with an EHX Bass9 to perform solo. It is exactly what I expected after reading its description. Overall the functionality and experience is similar to what I get from my Spark2 looper but in a pedal format.

I previously had a Boomerang which was awesome but also was large and frankly required me to remember too many details to perform live flawlessly. Though the manual for the GL100 is 35 pages long, I find it intuitive after just a little practice. The touchscreen + rotary dial are easy to use.

The auto-record and drum machine (or flashing LED if you prefer) do indeed guarantee a perfect start and stop every time. The two footswitches make it very easy to reliably dub, undo/redo, and stop. The auto fade out (2 speeds) is useful, as is the wide range of tempo values. Overall it's a big improvement over the 1-button loopers I've used.

The built in drum sounds are good but for the most part are loud and are not at all subtle, more suited to rock than the music I play. But I can make my own drum loops on my Mac and load them.

Minus one star for quality since it played random stuff until I updated the firmware. Minus another star since the Mooer Studio software is not signed correctly and was (rightly) a pain to install on Mac; Mooer Studio works but is very slow.

Other improvements I'd like to see and would pay for: Ability to name the loops in Mooer Studio so I don't have to remember numbers. Support for 2 (or, better, 3!) simultaneous loops. Stereo 1/4" inputs & outputs (as opposed to 2 mono inputs/outputs). MIDI clock input.

Great looper + drum machine
Lucaaaa 16.01.2026
I wanted a looper to use mostly when training or playing for pleasure. This one checks all the boxes. Now I can create a nice loop in a matter of seconds, including nice drum patterns, directly from the pedal without using an app, and improvise over it. Way less distracting than looking for backing tracks, and I also get to train my rhythm guitar skills.

Drum sound is pretty good, especially through a FRFR speaker (but quite allright even going through a clean guitar amp or a effect loop return). The drums can be sent to the same output as the guitar, or a dedicated one, so you can use it however fits your rig.

The fact that the looper is synchronized with the drums makes it twice more powerful in my opinion. And in case you can also activate only the drums or only the loop, so you have all the options.

I love it.

Decent for the price, but some flaws, one major
Snoozeboy 14.01.2025
Positives
+ very intuitive to use
+ has a lot of features for the price, e.g. touchscreen, drum machine, two footswitches, lot's of memory slots and capacity for long loops.

Negatives
- Single track looper only (though you have to pay much more for a dual track looper).
- parts of the display are quite small to read - I'm either too tall and/or too shortsighted these days.
- No additional footswitch socket to control the looper as a desklooper (so you can read what the display says) or to switch the drums on and off independently of the loop.
- power supply only, doesn't work on batteries.
- MAJOR FLAW - the PC software to manage/import tracks DOESN'T EXIST.

Could be better - too much extra noise
Prof Thunder 03.11.2025
Well this gets very good reviews as a looper with drum sounds as well.

Pros: Its packed with great features - no problem there - and it’s not difficult to use. Drums sound good. I didn’t do much looping yet but it seems quite intuitive. So quite easy to use. Loop playback quality really good too.

Cons:
It adds a lot of hissing to the signal chain, even at low volumes and even with little gain. That’s quite annoying. At high gain it adds a lot of hissing which makes it largely unusable except playing clean at low volumes. I sent it back and got a replacement. It was quieter than the first unit but still not good. I have kept it because of the ease of use but it is annoying so most of the time I remove it from the signal chain. I checked lots of reviews an no one mentions this problem and I am surprised, but they are probably paid reviews.

The second gripe is that the screen is really small and difficult to read, but for the price I didn’t expect more and the reviews online clearly say this, so I knew that in advance.

Third, you can alter the volume / level of the drums but actually even on the lowest setting it’s quite loud. It would be better if they could go a bit quieter.

All in all I decided to keep the pedal as I did get a replacement after the 30 day return period (which was really great of Thomman) and if it didn’t make so much noise I would be very happy with this product. I think they have just used some low quality components to keep the price low and I was unlucky and got a noisy one.

I think that I will use it for now but probably invest in a better quality looper if I end up using it a lot. It really shoudn’t add so much noise to the signal - to me thats inexcusable.
