The Markbass Micromark 801 is the Italian manufacturer's smallest available combo amp, and it's a familiar blend of everything they are so famous for: It's small, light, and loud. By integrating the amp itself into the speaker's housing, Markbass have created a compact, lightweight unit that can easily be stowed in a cupboard and – thanks to the handy handle on the top of the speaker – is also a breeze to transport. Despite its miniature dimensions, the Markbass Micormark 801 generates a mighty sound, as well as offering effective sound configuration and all the connections a bassist needs.

It's hip to be square

The Markbass Micromark 801 has an analogue 60W power amp that feeds an 8" loudspeaker, with extra low end provided by a bass reflex port on the back of the unit; as such, the Micromark's sound is surprisingly grown up for its size. This sound can be further optimised and adjusted according to each bassist's individual tastes by way of the two-band equaliser. With its virtually square form – each side measures no more than 27cm (10½in) – and low weight (6.6kg, 14½lbs), it's also easy on the bassist's back. If a set of headphones and an external sound source (via the aux in) are connected to the Micromark, it can also be used for silent practice sessions.

Ideal for practicing alone and jamming together

Combo amps the size of the Markbass Micromark 801 are, of course, primarily designed for home use: This isn't to say that musicians are simply willing to sacrifice sound quality while practicing at home, and this certainly won't be a problem with this speaker's sound output. Bassists don’t necessarily have to upset the neighbours, though, thanks to the peripheral sockets for headphones and musical accompaniment. And when it's time to tidy up, the Micromark 801 will simply disappear under the bed; its compact size is also a massive benefit when travelling by bus or rail. Ultimately, then, it would be unfair to describe the Markbass Micromark 801 as a mere practice amp: Its performance levels are more than sufficient to let you jam with fellow guitarists, keyboard players, and so on.

About Markbass

Markbass was founded in 2001 by Marco de Virgiliis and within a very short time established itself in the musical world with its extremely lightweight, compact bass amplifiers and speakers. Indeed, the Italian company has played a pioneering and prominent part in the field of lightweight equipment. The meteoric rise of Markbass began with the Little Mark amp series, which is still a stalwart in the current Markbass product range. Since then, the product range has grown even more and extends from simple amp and combo solutions to numerous speaker systems, as well as effect pedals and the sonically flexible modelling bass amplifiers Multiamp and Evo.

Perfect for monitoring

The many advantages of the Markbass Micromark 801 should now be clear enough: However, one rather underrated potential use for compact combos like this is when actually recording music, either at home or in the studio. Usually, musicians can only hear themselves and the accompaniment (be it other live instruments or just playback) via headphones, so that there is often the sense that the actual movement of the air, the sound pressure, of a loudspeaker is missing. This is where a compact combo amp is ideal; simply set it up at head height on a nearby desk or shelf (easy for a device this small) and enjoy a low-volume version of your familiar playing experience, all without interfering with the other instruments' microphones.

happy bassplayer 30.04.2021

Klein, licht en toch een lekker diep en geluid en goed volume; heerlijk versterkertje voor thuis en in kleine ruimtes. Een microfoon ervoor en over de PA werkt ook prima. Weinig regelmogelijkheden maar ik heb er ook nooit meer nodig gehad. Geweldig!

Dat er uit zo’n klein boxje zo’n waanzinnig geluid kan komen had ik niet verwacht.
Hij staat bij mij in de huiskamer als oefen versterker wat perfect is vanwege de afmeting.
Ik kan er alles mee wat ik nodig heb om te oefenen en of ik nou j-bas, p-bas, fretless of contrabas gebruikt, het klinkt er allemaal op!
De toonregeling is simpel: volume en contour. Speaker uit, koptelefoon op en dan lekker meespelen met oefenstukken via de aux in.
Maar ik ben er ook al mee op pad geweest met akoestische bezetting en dan heb ik nog steeds voldoende vermogen om goede bas sound neer te zetten.
Nee je broekspijpen gaan er niet van wapperen ;)

Klein maar dapper!

Dit" kleinood" is een geweldige aanwinst. Heeft een goede vette sound en bijt behoorlijk van zich af , je kan hem als " side kick" gebruiken en aan een P.A hangen, of als repetitie amp meenemen als een portabass ( 5.3 kilo) Zalig!
