De tank onder de compaccte mixers
Mijn vorige 1202 heeft het bijna 20 jaar uitgehouden. En hij had het waarschijnlijk nóg 20 jaar gedaan als niet een of andere prutser 400V op de voeding zou hebben gezet. Eindelijk iets waar hij NIET tegen kon...
De mixer is voornamelijk gebruikt als keyboard mixer. En daarvoor is het een ideaal apparaat. Met de alt 3-4 uitgangen, de stereo inputs, de verschillende uitgangen voor master en controlroom, is er altijd een manier te bedenken om met verschillende signalen in verschillende richtingen tegelijk te werken. In mijn praktijk betekende dat het volgende: de keyboads op twee stereokanalen er in en via de master naar buiten, een stereo monitor signaal op een andere ingang zetten en met de alt 3-4 keuze muten voor de master. En dan met de controlroom output of de headphones zowel de master als de alt 3-4 afluisteren met twee SRM350's of een setje inears. Geweldig!
Tel daarbij op de geweldige bouwkwaliteit, de interne voeding (geen Mickey Mouse adaptertje) en de goede geluidskwaliteit en je wilt nooit meer iets anders.

Super flexible compact mixer
I bought this to replace a larger 16 channel mixer that had lots of routing options. I needed something smaller, but with a similar amount of inputs and as I'm mostly mixing stereo sources, stereo channels were very welcome.
Enter the super compact Mackie 1202 VLZ; 4 mono channel + 4 stereo makes 20 channels, but there are also 2 stereo returns and a tape-return. That is 26 inputs in total!
It is not really a 2 bus mixer, but it has a nifty feature; the mute/alt bus: when you press mute on a channel, that channel is diverted to a set of separate outputs. I've hooked those outputs up to my audio interface, so I can choose which channel to record, by pressing the mute switch. I can also record the four mono channels separately from the direct outs.
Using the Mackie is a joy. Everything feels sturdy and the layout is clear. Sound-wise it does not seem to add any character of it's own, which may or may not be desirable in your case.
There's only one thing I'm really missing, and that is that I can not easily mute the speakers connected to the monitor outs when I want to monitor using headphones. But other than that I'm very happy with the 1202 VLZ.

The best small analog mixer ever
I've used and still use this mixer a lot. It has never let me down, even though I replaced it with the cq18t in my main setup for more digital functionality. The 1202 has the best routing options you can find on such a small surface. I've tried and worked with many small mixers, but nothing comes close. The alt out connected to the channels mute switches is a brilliant idea. Very useful for effects loops. Add it's durability and price, can't go wrong with this one.
