Heavy-duty desk microphone arm

The K&M 23860 BK is a spring-loaded desk microphone arm built from steel and aluminium, designed for professional recording studios, broadcast facilities, and multimedia workstations. The screw clamp attaches to desk edges up to 51mm thick and features a notched clamping surface that grips both flat table edges and round tubes, allowing secure installation without additional adapters. An internally routed 6m XLR cable keeps the signal path tidy, and the arm supports microphones weighing up to 1.5kg. An optional table flange is available as an alternative to the screw clamp for permanent fixed installations.

Spring mechanism and locking

The arm is built from black-coated steel and aluminium, guided through three pivot points and held under tension by a spring mechanism. The locking screws at each joint require only light tightening – the spring tension holds the microphone in position once the arm is correctly balanced, and the microphone can then be repositioned without readjusting the locking screws, provided the arm has been correctly balanced. One point to bear in mind is that when removing the microphone, the arm must be held firmly by hand. Without a load, the spring tension will cause the arm to rise uncontrollably – tightening the locking screws alone is not sufficient to prevent this.

Clamp, round tubes, and fixed installation

The notched clamping surface is the 23860's most distinctive feature relative to standard desk arms – the serrated grip pattern secures the arm reliably on round-section tubes as well as flat table edges, without requiring additional adapters. The screw clamp holds tables up to 51mm thick; for installations where a permanent mount is preferred, the optional table flange provides a bolt-down alternative that removes the clamp from the desk edge entirely. The internally routed 6m XLR cable provides sufficient length to reach the interfaces, mixers, or broadcast consoles while keeping the installation neat and reducing the need for extension cables.

About K&M

Founded in 1949, König & Meyer (K&M) initially produced music stands and measuring tools. Just two years later, the range was expanded to include instrument stands and microphone tripods, which are still the core business of the manufacturer today – and are still manufactured in their facilities in Wertheim, Germany. K&M also produces musicians' stools, stands for speakers, monitors, and lighting, and a range of accessories for mobile devices, such as tablet mounts. To satisfy the company's own exacting standards, even the individual metal and plastic components continue to be manufactured primarily in the company's factory in Wertheim, with particular emphasis placed on environmentally friendly and sustainable production.

Flexible positioning

The K&M 23860's three-joint design gives the arm considerable reach and angular range – microphone position can be changed quickly and returned to a consistent placement without reconfiguring the clamp or loosening the locking screws once the spring balance is set. This makes the 23860 practical for broadcast environments where microphone position often changes between users or recording sessions, and for recording studios where the same desk arm serves multiple microphone types across different sessions. The spring mechanism supports microphones weighing up to 1.5kg, allowing everything from compact broadcast microphones to large studio condensers to remain securely positioned without unwanted movement.

Difficult to mount the microphone properly

Great build quality, which is what you would expect from K&M.
Hooked a Shure SM7B, which was not easy: firstly, the socket for the XLR cable is mounted the wrong way out of the box, which makes it impossible to plug the cable in and operate the arm normally, so first I had to unscrew and disassemble that part and then try to reassemble it, which was quite a fiddly affair. Then, when screwing on the mic, it fit snugly... but when using the arm and trying to twist the microphone at the most extended joint (closest to one's face), which is the most needed fine-adjustment of the mic, this led to unscrewing the mic from the arm, and after a day of use the mic was completely unscrewed and actually fell off the arm... Tried to check whether I made a mistake when assembling the set, but couldn't find a solution. So I now avoid adjusting the mic position as much as I can... which defies the idea of a professional, movable arm... So not very happy with this product, and had I known about this issue, I wouldn't have bought the K&M 23860. (By the way: if anybody knows how to correct this issue, I would be happy if you shared the solution...!)

- voor mij persoonlijk vond ik 6 meter kabel wel erg lang en heb deze dan ook ingekort.

Sturdy, beautiful and Effecient

All I can say that this product is amazing. I use it to hold my Shure SM7B microphone on my desk. I bought this together with my Shure SM7B microphone especially for my online music lessons, singing lessons, and recording sessions. No more hassle, easy to move, and to setup. Always on my table ready for the action. This thing helps me to become more productive and flexible during online lessons. A little bit expensive for me but you get what you pay. Good quality microphone desk arm for a quality price. I am very happy with my purchase and the quality of the product. I would highly recommend this.

Pros

Great Product!

Nicely engineered and quiet. Cleans up my work area with the minimum intrusion. I no longer need a mike stand on the floor beside the piano. I can swing my mic out of the way when it is not needed and the internal cable make everything neat. It holds an old 414 with shock mount, and I am confident it will not fall on the piano. I have no issue recommending the 23860. Cheers M
