The Klark Teknik 3rd Dimension BBD-320 is a fully analogue, multi-dimensional signal processor that recreates the classic chorus effect popularised in the 1980s. The "BBD" (Bucket Brigade Delay) technology was a defining element of that era's guitar, bass, and synthesizer tones, with artists such as Brian Eno, Stevie Ray Vaughan, and Peter Gabriel making it a staple of their sound. The BBD-320 faithfully reproduces these iconic chorus textures and brings them into modern productions, whether for nostalgic recreations or bold new sound design. With an ultra-simple interface featuring just four buttons, the BBD-320 makes it easy to dial in the perfect chorus effect. For live performers, the unit also includes an optional footswitch input, allowing for hands-free control on stage.

Simple intensity control

Unlike many chorus units, the BBD-320 does away with conventional speed, tone, and depth knobs in favour of a streamlined button-based interface. Each button selects a preset intensity level, ranging from a subtle modulation to a pronounced, swirling effect. Pressing multiple buttons simultaneously allows for stacked chorus variations, expanding the range of available textures. A bypass mode preserves the dry signal when needed, and the rear panel offers a mono or stereo switch, giving users the flexibility to tailor the effect to their setup. The balanced XLR and 1/4" jack inputs and outputs ensure an excellent signal in both studio and live sound systems. This quick-access control layout also makes it easy to recall settings in live environments.

Chorus for stage and studio

Ideal for both studio production and live performance, the Klark Teknic BBD-320 delivers professional-grade modulation with minimal noise. The unit maintains an excellent output level across the 20Hz to 20kHz frequency range, providing a wide tonal spectrum with low distortion (<0.1% at 1kHz) and a noise floor as low as -79dBu with the chorus engaged. Studio users will appreciate its ability to add depth and movement to guitars, vocals, and synths, while live performers can modify their sound in real-time, switching chorus modes via a TS footswitch connected via 6.35mm mono jack. The relay-controlled bypass circuit switches automatically when the chorus is disengaged, keeping the signal clean and uninterrupted at all times and making the BBD-320 a reliable choice, both in the studio and on stage.

Founded in 1974 by brothers Terence and Phillip Clarke, Klark Teknik designs and manufactures professional audio equipment used primarily in the events industry. Based in Kidderminster, Worcestershire, UK, the company has developed a number of innovative products in the audio field (including the DN60 Real Time Analyzer and the DN300 Graphic Equalizer) and it won one of the Queen's Awards for Enterprise in 1986. A ten-segment LED meter provides precise output level monitoring, preventing clipping and distortion. With an input impedance of 30kΩ (balanced) and 15kΩ (unbalanced) and a low 50Ω output impedance, it delivers a consistent, high-headroom signal. Its relay-controlled bypass is particularly useful in rack-based studio setups, allowing engineers to maintain an uninterrupted signal flow when the effect is not in use. Excellent Chorus Which Adds Instant Width To Your Sound

Mainly using this unit for synths - and it handles the hotter input excellently. The effect is very subtle on all settings, but there is an instant stereo width added to the sound the moment you depress one of the buttons. It's also possible to depress multiple buttons at the same time, which gives you even more variations in sound - although they are all still rather subtle, whatever the combination. Highly recommended.

This is the best thing you can do to your DX7

This unit is the best thing that can happen to your Yamaha DX7. It adds a warmth and width like nothing else I've tried. It's a perfect match for DX7/DX7II. I use it all the time. It's also great for a lot of other synths, as well as adding a nice subtle width to vocals.

I ordered one and read in reviews that it's noisy. Yes, it adds a little noise. But just a little. And it also adds amazing chorus effect, which is better than all choruses I have. It's so nice to sing with this effect that this fact alone justifies the purchase. So I give it 5 stars. If you have extra 2u and want to have some extra gear to experiment with sound, for this price it's a must have gear. Recommened.
