The Genelec GLM Set includes a measurement microphone, network interface, USB cable, and a bracket compatible with both 3/8" and 5/8" threads, providing everything needed to configure a Genelec SAM series speaker system for any room using the GLM software. Alongside precise calibration, which is automatic and almost effortless, the set offers access to the GRADE tool for generating a comprehensive room acoustics report – helpful for evaluating and further enhancing system performance. In short, the GLM Set ensures users can easily achieve the highest level of audio accuracy and get the most out of Genelec's premium monitoring systems.
The GLM software, available as a free download from the manufacturer's website, provides full access to all Genelec loudspeakers' internal DSP, allowing for detailed control and customisation. Using the microphone included, the acoustic environment is first analysed by placing the mic in the desired recording position with its capsule pointing upward; equally, measurements can also be taken from multiple positions to identify room anomalies. The AutoCal 2 algorithm then automatically optimises levels, delay times, crossover phase, and frequency response to deliver a natural listening experience with the most linear response possible, while final adjustments can be made manually to suit personal preferences – all within the intuitive GLM software environment.
The Genelec GLM Set supports the configuration of compact stereo, multi-channel, and 3D audio setups, making it ideal for both small and larger recording studios that rely on Genelec monitors and demand balanced, linear sound for professional production work. Compatible with all Genelec speaker models manufactured since 2006 (including the 8200, 8300, 8400, 7200, and 7300 series), the set provides broad flexibility across a wide range of setups. With the GRADE Room Acoustics Report, acousticians can pinpoint weaknesses in the physical layout of a control room and make targeted improvements using acoustic treatments and optimised speaker positioning, helping studios meet the ITU-R BS.1116 recommendations with confidence and precision.
Genelec was founded in 1976 by Ilpo Martikainen. It grew from a family business into one of the world’s leading manufacturers of professional studio and broadcasting loudspeakers. To this day, Genelec’s loudspeakers are manufactured exclusively in Finland. Genelec offers performance-oriented, neutral-sounding loudspeakers and subwoofer systems for audio professionals and sound enthusiasts, and a combination of innovative technology and design ensure that the range of products is continuously improving. The company is committed to sustainable development and environmental awareness. In 2018, Genelec was awarded the Pro Sound "Company of the Year" award. Genelec speakers are favourites of such recording industry veterans as Obie O'Brien, Michael Carnes, and David Reitzas, as well as of producers like Hardwell, Keith Ross, and Vini Vici.
All connections are conveniently located on the rear of the network adapter, where the pre-wired measurement mic is plugged in via a 3.5mm jack. To the right are the network ports, including the GLM network socket, which connects to studio monitors or subwoofers depending on the specific studio configuration. If the total cable length exceeds 100m, a terminator socket is available for linking the last monitor in the setup. On the far left, a USB-B port connects the adapter to a computer for control via the GLM software, while an additional 3.5mm jack is provided for connecting a volume controller from Genelec, available separately.
