The Genelec 8030 CW is an active two-way studio monitor that delivers the first-class sound producers the world over have come to expect from the Finnish manufacturer. With its signature, stylish housing produced from lightweight die-cast aluminium, this model features two separate amplifiers with a total output of 100W, driving the 5" woofer and 3/4" tweeter to deliver sound pressure levels of up to 110dB SPL per stereo pair. In addition to its automatic start function, this speaker also allows the frequency response to be adjusted to the room's acoustic conditions. A balanced XLR input allows signals to be fed in without interference, while a protective circuit prevents driver damage by intercepting short-term level peaks. However, this model does not include magnetic shielding.

Impressive range of features

With a frequency range from 54Hz to 20kHz, the Genelec 8030 CW delivers impressive low-end performance for a compact monitor. To achieve this, the speaker uses bass reflex technology, which maximises low-frequency sound pressure and extends the driver transmission range. For adjustment to room conditions, the bass frequencies can be reduced by either -2dB or -4dB with this model, or rolled off completely. The treble levels can also be reduced by -2dB. When the monitor is placed on a reflective surface, activating the Desktop Control function helps prevent frequencies between 160 and 200Hz from becoming overly pronounced. The (deactivatable) automatic start function detects whether a signal is present and automatically switches the amplifier unit on as required. This makes the speaker easy to operate and helps save energy.

Anyone looking for a monitor speaker with a flat frequency response and a spacious, three-dimensional sound will not be disappointed with the Genelec 8030 CW. As this device does not include a volume control, it is best suited to studio setups where the listening level is adjusted via an external monitor controller. If playback remains consistently too loud or too quiet, the speaker's sensitivity can be adjusted using a small rotary control. The speaker is an excellent choice for recording and mixing professionals who rely on consistently high-quality sound. It can be used not only as part of a stereo set, but also as a component in a surround setup. Genelec also offers a suitable subwoofer for this purpose – the Genelec 7040APM. When used on resonant surfaces such as a desk or stand, the integrated IsoPod comes into play, decoupling the speaker from its support surface using a combination of rubber feet and connecting bars. It's just great for a nearfield listening

Using my Genelecs as a desktop speakers and I'm extremely happy with them.
The sound is big and natural, it's a pure joy to listen literally to any kind of music.
Haven't found any cons so far.

Otro nivel a la hora de mezclar, un sonido sumamente nítido. Tiene unos graves impresionantes para ser de 5 pulgadas, sinceramente pensé que iba a tener que comprar un subgrave para completar un poco los graves, pero van más que de sobra. 10/10

J'ai choisi ses moniteurs après avoir eu de nombreuse années des Focal Alpha 6. La différence est flagrante. Les Genelec sont beaucoup plus précises, plus raides, pardonnent moins de choses. Elles manquent un peu d'infra mais je leur pardonne au regard du reste. J'ai gagné en rapidité au mixage et au mastering avec ses moniteurs, je ne peux plus revenir en arrière. A noter : je les ai roder environ 20h, au début avec de la musique classique douce et au final avec de la techno et du métal à volume élevé.

Genelec kann es eben doch

Immer wieder lese ich, dass Genelecs zu sehr Hifi-Klang hätten. Dann sollen die Autoren doch bitte schreiben, welcher kompakte, aktive Hifi-Lautsprecher eine solche Analytik mit Entspanntkeit bei Lautstärke auch im Bass bringt wie dieser Genelec. Und vor allem zu dem Preis. Bis dahin empfehle ich sie dringend für kleine Setups. Sie stehen bei uns mit dem Tischstativ 8000-323W auf einem Schreibtisch. Er hat keine DSP-Einessung, fehlt aber auch nicht. Lieber das Geld in die Raumakustik stecken.
