The Fun Generation RTA-31 is a 31-band spectrum analyser that delivers a clear and comprehensive overview of frequencies at an affordable price, offering real-time visualisation across 31 ISO bands from 20Hz to 20kHz. Eleven green LEDs indicate the level of each frequency band, while a red LED warns of signal overload, ensuring precise and reliable monitoring at a glance. Two XLR inputs pass their bridged signal to two XLR outputs without latency, and the same functionality is available via the built-in RCA input and output connections. Excellent ease of use

The brightness of the level indicators on the Fun Generation RTA-31 can be continuously dimmed, allowing the analyser to be used comfortably both alongside electronic displays or in darker FOH environments without causing distraction or glare. Thanks to its 32kOhm input impedance, the visualiser can also handle outputs with higher signal voltages of up to 500mV for unbalanced signals, making it flexible for a wide range of audio setups. What's in a name...!

Als kind, zo'n halve eeuw geleden 😏, vond ik de lichtjes van mijn treinbaan al prachtig.
Maar eenmaal helemaal opgetuigd was ik toch snel verveeld van het treintje dat steeds maar datzelfde rondje 'tufte' 🚎🚋.
Echter, sinds ik een homestudio heb, is het plezier van feestlichtjes herboren (de meeste mensen doen dat alleen rond Kerst 😊🎄).
En nog meer omdat muziek feitelijk 'oneindige' variaties biedt. Zoals de naam al suggereert zou dit 19 inch apparaat voor de 'pretgeneratie-van-tegenwoordig' bedoeld zijn. Inderdaad, het biedt een fraaie lichtshow. Het apparaat is slechts in staat om een ruw beeld te geven van alle frequenties in een signaal. Zo is er duidelijk onderscheid te zien tussen een bas, elektrische gitaar en een zangstem. Het is hooguit indicatief, maar totaal niet analytisch. Wellicht zou een 2HE-variant dit beter kunnen.
Lang geleden heb ik ooit al eerder zo'n soort kastje gehad en uit 'ruimtegebrek' weer weggedaan. Nu vond ik het leuk om mezelf eens te trakteren met deze [Fun]-factor, ook al kom ik dan uit een oudere generatie.
Er zijn wel enkele kleine nadelen. De rubbervoeten onderop zijn bedoeld om het apparaat ergens los op een plank te zetten, zodat het goed zichtbaar is, maar montage in een 19 inch rek kan daardoor wat krap worden. Bovendien schijnt volgens de handleiding dit rubbermateriaal een 'kwetsbare' ondergrond aan te kunnen tasten...
Verder heb ik gemerkt dat het uitgestuurde signaal via de RCA-aansluitingen (-10 dBV) vrij hard moet zijn om een goed zichtbare visuele feedback te krijgen (met de Sensitivity-knop voluit!). Daarom dient het uitgestuurde signaal/volume vrij hard te zijn, hetgeen niet altijd wenselijk is.
Met de XLR-aansluitingen (+4dBu), dat een volume-niveauverschil heeft van maar liefst 11,8 dB t.o.v. de ongebalanceerde aansluitingen (géén 14 vanwege het verschil in de twee referentiewaarden!), is uiteraard een duidelijker visuele feedback mogelijk.
Zoals gezegd, dit is een leuk 'hebbedingetje' voor in de (home-)studio om een indruk van een signaal te krijgen, maar het geeft niet of nauwelijks analytische informatie. Maar daarom heb ik het ook niet gekocht (de softwarematige variant is vaak nauwkeuriger). Dus leuk om erbij te hebben, ook al ben ik qua leeftijd geen onderdeel meer van die 'Fun Generation'. Maar het 'Have Fun' aspect is hier zeker terecht 🙋. Have Fun!

Not like the older units

Be aware for the new models. They are very disappointing. Im not the only one complaining.

The response of the frequency light is not smooth/high like on the most YouTube videos. They dont drop nicely but just turn off faster. Its makes the unit very nervous looking. It just cuts of to fast. Low FPS.

They must have used other parts in the older units, cant tell. I tried it on 4 different amp’s but its all the same.

Very very dissepointed since its a pretty expensive unit.

I would recommend it anymore.

Bijna uitstekende Spectrum Analyzer

De SA doet wat hij moet doen, gevoeligheid is goed, helderheid van display is prima, en aansluiting en bediening is kinderspel.
De enige op-/aanmerking is dat de bandfilters niet overlappen en zelfs niet geheel aansluiten: Als je een functiegenerator (sinusgenerator) aansluit en je sweept langzaam door het audiospectrum dan valt de actieve freq.band eerst geheel weg en het duurt een aantal herz voordat de volgende band gaat oplichten.

Wat een mooi apparaat,
Je kan de frequenties beter afstellen tijdens studio werk, het oogt ook mooi tijdens muziek afspelen.
